Abstract:
The invention provides a polyurethaneurea composition comprising at least one diisocyanate compound and a poly(tetramethylene-co-ethyleneether) glycol comprising constituent units derived by copolymerizing tetrahydrofuran and ethylene oxide, wherein the portion of the units derived from the ethylene oxide is present in the poly(tetramethylene-co-ethyleneether) glycol at less than about 15 mole percent. The invention further relates to the use of such low ethyleneether content Poly(tetramethylene-co-ethyleneether) glycols in spandex compositions. The invention also relates to new polyurethane compositions comprising poly(tetramethylene-co-ethyleneether) glycols with such low ethyleneether content, and their use in spandex.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a sulfo-modified copolyester blend composition and polyglycolic acid. The blend of sulfo-modified copolyester and polyglycolic acid can be used to prepare containers with good transparency and high gas barrier properties. The preferred sulfo-modified copolyester composition comprises terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid and 5-sulfoisophthalic acid. A method of preparing a blend of sulfo-modified copolyester and polyglycolic acid is disclosed, as well as master batch processes. The present invention also relates to a method of making a container wherein the sulfo-modified copolyester is blended with the polyglycolic acid at an injection molding machine used to make preforms, which are then blown into bottles.
Abstract:
A spandex comprising a polyurethane or polyurethaneurea reaction product of at least one diisocyanate compound and a poly(tetramethylene-co-ethyleneether) glycol comprising constituent units derived by copolymerizing tetrahydrofuran and ethylene oxide wherein the percentage of ethylene ether moieties is from about 16 to about 70 mole percent with at least one chain extender selected from the group consisting of diamines and diols and at least one chain terminator wherein the spandex is spun at a speed in excess of about 750 meters per minute.
Abstract:
Warp stretch woven fabrics including plain, twill and satin constructions are disclosed. The fabrics include weft yarns and warp yarns. About 15 weight percent to about 55 weight percent of the warp yarns are polyester bicomponent continuous filaments comprising poly(ethylene terephthalate) and poly(trimethylene terephthalate) having an after-heat-set crimp contraction value from about 20% to about 80%.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a fully drawn high tenacity yarn and a process for making the same from a partially oriented polyester feed yarn in a drawing process comprises of two stages.
Abstract:
The invention provides a bicomponent staple fiber comprising poly(ethylene terephthalate) and poly(trimethylene terephthalate) wherein the bicomponent fiber has a substantially oval cross-section shape having an aspect ratio A:B of about 2:1 to about 5:1 wherein A is a fiber cross-section major axis length and B is a fiber cross-section minor axis length, a polymer interface substantially perpendicular to the major axis, a cross-section configuration selected from the group consisting of side-by-side and eccentric sheath-core, a tenacity at 10 % elongation of about 1.1 cN/dtex to about 3.5 cN/dtex, a free-fiber length retention of about 40 % to about 85 %, and a tow crimp development value of about 30 % to 55 %, and a spun yarn comprising the bicomponent staple fiber.
Abstract:
This invention relates to stretchable nonwoven sheets prepared by substantially uniformly impregnating a necked nonwoven substrate or an easily extensible as-made nonwoven substrate with an elastomeric polymer by treatment with an elastomeric polymer solution. The nonwoven sheet is useful in the manufacture of diapers and other hygiene articles.
Abstract:
Process for oxidizing cyclohexane in which oxygen is contacted with cyclohexane at a pre-selected feed rate in a first reaction zone and unconsumed oxygen is contacted with cyclohexane in a second reaction zone in which the cyclohexane feed rate is lower than the pre-selected feed rate.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to fibers comprising a copolymer of polyethylene terephthalate and poly(ethylene napthalate) (PETN). These fibers are used in polyester fiberfill batts, structures and articles made therefrom. Such articles provide superior bulk retention on exposure to high temperature.
Abstract:
Circular-knit, elastic, single-knit jersey fabric (10), of spun and/or continuous filament hard yarns (14) with bare spandex (12) plated in every course, has a cover factor in the range of 1.3 to 1.9, a basis weight from 140 to 240 g/m 2 , an elongation of 60% or more and low shrinkage. The circular knot, single-knit jersey fabric is produced by maintaining the draft of the spandex at or below 2X (100% elongation) and maintaining the finishing and drying temperature(s) below the spandex heat set temperature. The knit fabric meets the end-use specifications without heat setting.
