Abstract:
Proppant compositions for use in hydraulic fracturing and methods of using same are disclosed herein. The proppant compositions include a plurality of proppant particulates and at least one particulate of the plurality of proppant particulates containing at least one tracer, wherein the at least one tracer separates from the at least one particulate located inside a fracture of a subterranean formation after a period of time.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, the invention provides a method of treating a subject who suffers from a neoplasm (including a cancer such as a radiotherapeutic-resistant cancer) by administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of (a) 5-formyl-2'-deoxyuridine (fdU or foUdR) or a 5-formyl-2'-deoxyuridine derivative, optionally in combination with 5-hydroxy-2'-deoxyuridine (hUdR); and (b) at least one composition selected from the group consisting of either 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), a 5-FU prodrug (e.g. 5- fluoro-2'-deoxyuridine (FdU)) or 5-FU metabolite. In a preferred embodiment, a subject who suffers from colorectal cancer (CRC) or metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) is treated with a therapeutically-effective amount of fdU and either 5-FU or the 5-FU prodrug 5-fluoro-2'- deoxyuridine (FdU). Related pharmaceutical compositions are also provided.
Abstract:
A vaccine construct comprising an antigenic PCSK9 peptide and an immunogenic carrier, and methods of using the same that are effective to lower blood cholesterol levels in a mammal and treat dyslipidemias and related disease states in a mammal without the frequency of administration required by passive immunity strategies.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to method(s) of treating a subject afflicted with a skin disease or condition, the method comprising administering to the subject or patient in need a composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a substituted cis or trans - stilbene or a stilbene hybrid. A method of treating or reducing the likelihood of a skin disease or condition in a patient is an additional embodiment of the present invention. Preferred pharmaceutical compositions of the invention include nanoemulsions comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a substituted cis or trans -stilbene or stilbene hybrid and at least one antibiotic.
Abstract:
Provided is a method for determining a volume, at room temperature, of a first chamber having an unknown volume that is in fluid communication through a controllable valve with a second chamber having an unknown volume. The method can include measuring, by a pressure sensor coupled to one of the first chamber and the second chamber, a first equilibrium pressure of a gas that was introduced into the second chamber in both the first chamber and the second chamber after equilibrium is reached; measuring, by the pressure sensor, a second equilibrium pressure of the gas that was introduced into the second chamber in both the first chamber and the second chamber after equilibrium is reached, wherein the first chamber comprises an object with a known volume therein; and determining the volume of the first chamber based on the first equilibrium pressure and the second equilibrium pressure.
Abstract:
Using high-throughput screening, in an oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) model, isoxsuprine hydrochloride was identified as a potent neuroprotective compound. In an animal middle artery occlusion (MCAO) model of transient focal ischemia, isoxsuprine significantly reduced infarct volume compared to vehicle. The invention, therefore, provides methods of treatment and pharmaceutical compositions that are useful in the treatment and prevention of a wide-variety of ischemia-related injuries, including stroke.
Abstract:
Novel non-planar non-contigous graphene structures and novel methods for forming the same. According to some embodiments the novel methods result in three-dimensional graphene structures. According to a further embodiment these three-dimensional graphene structures have a specific, controlled morphology. According to a still further method the novel method results in decoratable graphene sheets or three-dimensional graphene structures.
