Abstract:
Knit fabrics and military apparel such as T-shirts made therefrom are disclosed. The fabrics are constructed from blended yarns made from an intimate combination of nylon and cotton staple fibers. Such fabrics comprise a weight ratio of cotton to nylon which ranges from about 55:45 to about 85:15, and these fabrics also have a weight ranging from about 3 to about 8 oz/yd2. Knit fabrics of this type possess a desirable combination of good thermal protective properties, provided the specified high level of staple fiber blend uniformity is achieved, along with very useful abrasion resistance, bursting strength and drying time characteristics.

Abstract:
The invention provides a process for hydrocyanation, comprising: contacting 2-pentenenitrile with hydrogen cyanide at a temperature in the range of about 0°C to about 150°C in the presence of at least one Lewis acid promoter and a catalyst precursor composition, wherein the catalyst precursor composition comprises a zero-valent nickel and at least one bidentate phosphite ligand selected from a member of the group represented by Formula (I) and Formula (II), in which all like reference characters have the same meaning, except as further explicitly limited: wherein R 1 and R 5 are independently selected from the group consisting of C 1 to C 5 hydrocarbyl; and R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 6 , R 7 and R 8 are independently selected from the group consisting of H and C 1 to C 4 hydrocarbyl.
Abstract:
A body-shaping garment (1) and fabric is provided. The garment includes an inner fabric (4) layer and an outer fabric layer (6) . The inner fabric layer is placed in an angular orientation relative to the outer fabric layer. Further, the inner fabric layer and the outer fabric layer have sufficiently isotropic hysteresis.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for unwinding yams with: (1) a drive roll with a polished metal finish to ensure good fiber/metal contact; (2) a drive roll/separator roll combination that enables multiple wraps of yam on the drive roll; (3) pivoting yarn holding arms for the active and standby packages that provide for easier access to the packages on a frame; and (4) in combination with the pivoting yarn holding arms, one or more pivoting legs extending from a frame so that the apparatus has a relatively small footprint and simplified yarn threading/string-up as compared to background art OETO apparatus.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an adjustable air shield (18) for skewed godet rolls (12, 14). The air shield (18) can be any blocking type plate with or without perforations. Furthermore, these air shields (18) may be placed in close proximity to the pair of skewed, relax rolls (12, 14) in the relax zone of a fiber producing process. The plates (18) are positioned on the inside of the threadline (16) so that the airflow is substantially reduced around the threadline (16) on the skewed rolls. The preferred embodiment of the present invention is one or more skewed godet rolls (12, 14) in the relax area of the fiber production process with air shields (18) positioned on the inside of the fiber string up (threadline) (16) between the pair of skewed rolls (12, 14), such that the gap between any roll (12, 14) and any air shield (18) is uniform and constant.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for texture heat-setting bulk continuous filament (BCF) yarns in hot air heat-setting machines that includes a preheating device/step that in the processing of BCF yarns. The apparatus and method use a mixture of steam and atmospheric air to preheat a twisted BCF yarn bundle to develop crimp memory and provide cohesion to the twisted BCF yarn bundle. Yarn bundle cohesion during texture heat-setting helps to avoid frequent breaks at the winder of the hot air heat-setting machine. The addition of the preheating device/step significantly improves the ability of hot air heat-setting machines to maintain continuous operation during texture setting of BCF yarns and makes the hot air heat-setting method commercially viable for this application.
