Abstract:
Presently described are polylactic acid polymer based films comprising a structured surface and articles. In one embodiment, the film comprises a semicrystalline polylactic acid polymer; a second polymer such as polyvinyl acetate polymer having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of at least 25°C; and plasticizer. Articles are also described such as a tape or sheet, comprising the structured PLA-based film and a layer of (e.g. pressure sensitive) adhesive disposed on the film. In some embodiments, the tape or sheet further comprises a low adhesion backsize or a release liner. The article can be suitable for various end-uses. In one embodiment, the tape is a paint masking tape. In another embodiment, the tape is a floor marking tape.
Abstract:
Herein is disclosed a plastic tape, comprising a backing with a first major side comprising a microstructured paint-retention pattern and a second major side that may comprise a microstructured hand-tear pattern and with a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer disposed on second major side of the backing; wherein the backing, the microstructured paint-retention pattern, and the microstructured hand-tear pattern (if present) all constitute a monolithic plastic unit.
Abstract:
A stretch releasing adhesive tape is disclosed comprising a pull tab comprising a single tab film which is adhered to both adhesive surfaces of the stretch releasing adhesive tape. The pull tab is foldable so as to comprise an unobtrusive visual appearance, and may also be extendable so that the pull tab may be grasped to activate the stretch release.
Abstract:
Polymeric substrates with a first major side including first, high-gloss areas and also including second, low-gloss areas that comprise a molded textured surface, the first and second areas being provided on the first major surface in a predetermined pattern; and wherein the first major side of the substrate further includes at least one physical microstructure that is superimposed on the first, high-gloss areas and on the second, low-gloss areas.
Abstract:
A tape and masking material composite including a sheet of masking material, and a length of pressure sensitive adhesive coated tape adhered to a first surface along a first edge of the sheet of masking material with the tape having a longitudinal pressure sensitive adhesive covered portion extending past the first edge of the sheet of masking material. The masking material has removable pressure sensitive adhesive on a second major surface opposite its first major surface at least including on and along a portion of that second surface along a second edge opposite its first edge.
Abstract:
A roll of self-wound, linerless, double-faced adhesive masking tape, including at least one exposed first longitudinal stripe of pressure-sensitive adhesive on a first major surface of the tape and at least one exposed second longitudinal stripe of pressure-sensitive adhesive on a second major surface of the tape, the at least one exposed first longitudinal stripe of pressure-sensitive adhesive and the at least one exposed second longitudinal stripe of pressure-sensitive adhesive being transversely-offset and non-overlapping with each other.
Abstract:
A hand-tearable masking tape with a primary microstructured hand-tear pattern and at least one secondary hand-tear pattern oriented so that the tape exhibits multi-directional tear.
Abstract:
A stretch releasing adhesive tape with an improved pull tab is disclosed. Methods are provided by which a single tab film may be adhered to an elongated strip of stretch releasing adhesive tape to form a manually engageable pull tab at a selected location. Such a pull tab may be foldable so as to comprise an unobtrusive visual appearance, and may also be extendable so that the pull tab may be grasped to activate the stretch release.
Abstract:
The present disclosure generally relates to adhesive compositions, adhesive articles including the adhesive compositions, methods of making the adhesive compositions and articles, and methods of using the adhesive compositions and articles. The adhesive compositions of the present disclosure include a thermoplastic phenolic resin made from the reaction of (1) alkyl phenol (e.g., butyl- or octyl- or -nonyl) and formaldehyde; or (2) alkyl phenol (e.g., butyl- or octyl-) and acetaldehyde; or (3) alkyl phenol (e.g., butyl- or octyl-) and acetylene. The present disclosure also generally relates to adhesive articles including these adhesive compositions. The inventors of the present disclosure found that such adhesive articles exhibit excellent adhesion to architectural coatings with including low or no VOCs, deep base formulations, and/or formulations including primer in various conditions, including, for example, high humidity.
Abstract:
An article is described such as a tape or sheet, comprising a PLA-based film and a layer of (e.g. pressure sensitive) adhesive disposed on the film. The PLA-based film comprises a semicrystalline polylactic acid polymer; a second polymer, polyvinyl acetate polymer having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of at least 25°C; and plasticizer; wherein said second polymer results in a film that does not exhibit plasticizer migration when aged at 80°C for 24 hours. The tape or sheet may further comprises a low adhesion backsize or a release liner. The article can be suitable for various end-uses. In one embodiment, the tape is a paint masking tape. In another embodiment, the tape is a floor marking tape.
