Abstract:
Polymer dispersions are heat-sensitized by the addition of alkoxylated amines having inverse solubility, when the pH of the mixture is below 6.
Abstract:
Process for preparing an aqueous polymer dispersion by polymerizing at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer B in an aqueous medium in the presence of polymer particles A and at least one dispersant.
Abstract:
Paper-coating mass (A) comprising at least one inorganic pigment (I) and as binder, an aqueous polymer dispersion (B). (B) is prepared by emulsion polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers and (A) forms a gel at above 35 deg C, i.e. between 35 and 60 deg C its viscosity is at least double its value at 30 deg C. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Preparation of coated paper by applying (A) to crude paper; and (2) Coated paper prepared using (A) or by method (1).
Abstract:
Formed products (I) based on sand in which the main component is a sand-based mineral material, also contain film-forming, water-insoluble polymer(s) uniformly distributed in the product. An Independent claim is also included for a method for the production of (I) by making a plastically formable, free-flowing or powdered material by mixing sand- and/or gravel-based mineral material with polymer(s) as above, optionally with addition of water, then forming the mixture as required and drying the product.
Abstract:
A paper coating slip containing a mineral pigment and an aqueous polymer dispersion as a binder, wherein the polymer dispersion is obtainable by emulsion polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated compounds (monomers) and the paper coating slip gels at above 35° C., i.e. the viscosity of the paper coating slip at from 35 to 60° C. is at least twice the viscosity at 30° C.

Abstract:
PREPARATION OF COPOLYMER DISPERSIONS HAVING A NARROW PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION, AND EXHIBITING DILATANT FLOW OVER A BROAD RANGE OF CONCENTRATIONS A process for the preparation of copolymer dispersions having a narrow particle size distribution, and exhibiting dilatant flow over a broad range of concentrations, by emulsion copolymerization of from 1 to 10 percent by weight, based on total monomers, of .alpha.,.beta.-mono-olefinically unsaturated monocarboxylic acids and/or dicarboxylic acids with other mono-olefinically unsaturated monomers and with from 0 to 5 percent by weight of polyolefinically unsaturated monomers in the presence of conventional emulsifiers, dispersants and polymerization initiators, and in the presence or absence of regulators, wherein the monomers are copolymerized in aqueous emulsion, with simultaneous agglomeration but only partial fusion of the initially formed polymer particles, at a temperature near the glass transition temperature of the copolymer formed, and thereafter A) the copolymer content of the aqueous copolymer dispersion is brought to 35 to 55 percent by weight an the pH to 3 to 5, or B) the water contained in the aqueous copolymer dispersion is entirely or partially replaced by a watermiscible liquid which does not dissolve or swell the copolymer.
