Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing an ester of an alpha , beta -unsaturated carboxylic acid by converting the carboxylic acid by means of a C6-C12-alkanol, cyclopentanol or cyclohexanol in the presence of an acid esterification catalyst and an entrainer for removing the reaction water that is produced during esterification. The inventive method is characterised in that the olefin which forms the basis for the alkanol is used as the entrainer.
