Abstract: Disclosed is a method for the preparation of FCHC-free polyurethane soft (molded) foam materials with low density, by reacting (A) liquid polyisocyanate mixtures containing bound urethane groups, containing 22 to 30 weight percent of NCO groups, which in turn are prepare by reacting a mixture of diphenylmethane-diisocyanate and polyphenyl-polymethylene-polyisocyanates (raw MDI) with at least one polyoxypropylene-polyoxyethylene-polyol with a functionality between 2.5 and 3.6, a hydroxyl number between 50 and 90 and a polymerized ethylene oxide group concentration ranging from more than 30 to less than 50 weight percent, relative to the weight of the polymerized ethylene oxide and 1,2 propylene oxide groups, or by reacting of 4,4' diphenylmethane-diisocyanate (MDI) or an MDI-isomeric mixture with the above-named polyoxypropylene-polyoxyethylene-polyol to form an NCO-group-containing quasi-prepolymer, and diluting this quasi-prepolymer with raw-MDI, with (B) higher-molecular polyhydroxyl compounds and, if appropriate, (C) low-molecular chain lengthening and/or cross-linkage promoting materials, in the presence of (D) propellants, (E) catalysts as well as, if appropriate, (F) auxiliary materials and/or additives. Also disclosed are polyisocyanate mixtures modified with urethane groups (A), which are utilizable for carrying out the above method.

Abstract: The novel copolymers having K values of from 5 to 80 are prepared by free-radical polymerisation of A) 20 to 80% by weight, based on the total weight of (A) and (B), of at least one olefinically unsaturated polyoxyalkylene alcohol or polyester alcohol adduct, (B) 80 to 20% by weight, based on the total weight of (A) and (B), of at least one vinyl monomer from the group comprising N-vinylformamide, -2-pyrrolidone, -2-piperidone, -2-caprolactam, -imidazole, -2-ethyleneurea and -2-propyleneurea, C) 0.05 to 40 parts by weight of glycidyl acrylate and/or glycidyl methacrylate, D) 0 to 10 parts by weight of at least one alpha , beta -monoolefinically unsaturated acid and E) 0 to 30 parts by weight of at least one olefinically unsaturated carboxamide and/or carboxylate and/or styrene, the parts by weight of (C), (D) and (E) in each case being based on 100 parts by weight of the monomers (A) and (B). The copolymers are used as assistants and/or additives, for example as dispersion and/or emulsification assistants, or as additives for improving the mechanical properties, in formulations for the preparation of polyisocyanate polyaddition products.

Abstract: A method of removing and reclaiming a double metal cyanide (DMC) catalyst from a polyol is disclosed. A polymeric acid that is soluble in the polyol is introduced into the polyol during or after the polymerization reaction. The polymeric acid reacts with the double metal cyanide catalyst thereby causing the double metal cyanide catalyst and the polymeric acid to form an agglomeration in the polyol. The agglomeration is easily separated from the polyol via filtration, for example. The recovered agglomerated DMC catalyst can then be reconstituted using an acid solution.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of flexible, soft polyurethane foams having viscoelastic, structure-borne sound-proofing properties in a temperature range of from -20.degree.C to +80.degree.C by reacting a) a polyoxyalkylene-polyol mixture containing ai) block polyoxypropylene-polyoxyethylene-polyol mixture having a hydroxyl number of from 14 to 65 and containing from 2 to 9 % by weight of terminal ethylene oxide units, based on the weight of the polyoxypropylene units, prepared by anionic polymerization, at elevated temperatures, of 1,2-propyleneoxide onto an initiator molecule mixture having a mean functionality of from 2.3 to 2.8, comprising water and ylycerol and/or trimethylolpropane, and polymerization of acylene oxide onto the resultant polyoxypropylene adduct, and aii) one or more difunctional and/or trifunctional polyoxypropylene-polyoxyethylene-polyol containing from 60 to 85 % by weight of oxyethylene units, based on the total weight of polymerized alkylene oxide units, and having a hydroxyl number of from 20 to 80, and b) if desired low-molecular-weight chain extenders with c) organic and/or modified organic polyisocyanates in the presence of d) catalysts, e) blowing agents, preferably water, and, if desired, f) auxiliaries and/or additives, and to the polyoxyalkylene-polyol mixtures (a) which can be used for this purpose.

El metodo provee un catalizador que incluye un compuesto de cianuro de multiples metales. Un iniciador H-funcional, un oxido de alquileno y CO2 se hacen reaccionar en presencia del compuesto de cianuro de multiples metales en un reactor. El metodo provee ademas un compuesto CO2-filico o un sustituyente CO2-filico. El compuesto y sustituyente CO2-filico mejoran la incorporacion de CO2 en el poliol de polietercarbonato y reduce la formacion de carbonatos de alquileno ciclicos, tales como carbonato de propileno ciclico, que son subproductos indeseables.
