Abstract: Caprolactam is produced from mixtures containing polymers or thermoplastic moulded materials with a repeating structural unit -[N(H)-(CH2)5-C(O)-]-, by depolymerization at elevated temperatures in the presence of water. The mixture used includes, in wt. %: from 50 to 99.9 polymer or thermoplastic moulded materials containing a repeating structural unit -[-N(H)-(CH2)5-C(O)-]-, from 0.1 to 50 additives as inorganic fillers, organic and inorganic pigments and dyestuffs, from 0 to 10 organic and/or inorganic additives, from 0 to 40 non-polyamide-containing polymers and from 0 to 20 polyamides, with the exception of polycaprolactam and co-polymers, produced from caprolactam. The depolymerization is effected in the presence of water without any addition of an acid or a base at temperatures ranging from 270 to 350 degrees C and weight ratio between water and polymer or the thermoplastic moulded material from 1:1 to 20:1, for a time less than 3 hours. 1 claim

Abstract: Se obtiene caprolactama a partir de mezclas que contienen polímeros o materiales de moldeo termoplásticos que tienen la unidad respectiva -[-N(H)-(CH2)5-C(O)-]-, (a) mediante despolimerizacion a temperaturas elevadas en presencia de una base bajo presion reducida o (b) en presencia de agua, utilizando una mezcla que comprende esencialmente de 50 a 99.9% en peso de un polímero o de un material de moldeo termoplástico que tiene la unidad repetitiva -[-N(H)-(CH2)5-C(O)-]-, de 0.1 a 50% en peso de aditivos seleccionados a partir del grupo que consiste en rellenos inorgánicos, pigmentos y colorantes orgánicos e inorgánicos, de 0 a 10% en peso de aditivos orgánicos y/o inorgánicos, de 0 a 40% en peso de un polímero que no contienen poliamida y de 0a 20% en peso de poliamidas, con la excepcion de policaprolactama y copoliamidas preparadas a partir de caprolactama, y llevar a cabo la despolimerizacion en presencia de una base bajo presion reducida, el contenido de agua de la mezcla utilizada no siendo más de 0.01% en peso, o llevar a cabo la despolimerizacion en presencia de agua sin la adicion deácido o base a de 270 a 350 degree C y una relacion en peso de agua a polímero o material de moldeo termoplástico de 1:1 a 20:1 y en un tiempo de reaccion de menos de 3 horas.

The depolymerization process ia carried out in the presence of water without addition of acid or base at a temperature ranging from 270 to 350 degC and weight ratio of water to the polymer or the thermoplastic moulding material ranging from 1:1 to 20:1 and for a reaction period shorter than 3 hours.
