Abstract: Zeolite mouldings contg. basic Al chloride binders are produced by mixing zeolite powder with binder, kneading moulding mixt. opt. with addn. of water, and calcining at =500 degrees C. Zeolite powder used is capable of flowing and contains 40-70 wt.% water. Basic Al chloride is prepd. by treating aq. solns. contg. Al and Cl ions with solns. of amines having mol.wt. 250-500 in a water-immiscible organic solvent. The aq. and organic phase are then sepd. from one another. The basic Al chloride is recovered from sepd. aq phase by a standard method, provided that the aq. soln. contains max. 25g/l Al and the organic phase contains max. 0.35 mol/l amine. Amorphous basic Al chloride used in an excellent binder for zeolite moulding prodn. Mouldings obtd. have good absorption and catalytic properties.

Abstract: V Silicate with zeolite structure is prepd. by crystallisation from a mixt. of water glass and an aq. soln. of amine at 100-200 degrees C under soln. pressure and in the presence of V oxide and/or V oxide cpd., pref. V chloride. The zeolite is prepd. using a mixt. of water glass (8wt.% Na2O, 25-30wt.% SiO2, small amt. of Al2O3) and V chloride in an aq. soln. contg. 5-50wt.% (10-25wt.%) hexamethylenediamine. The mixt. is heated for 1-5 days respectively, 2-4 days at 140-160 degrees C under soln. pressure. The resultant zeolite has a structure of ZSM-5 type and contains only a small amt. of Al. Its V oxide content is 0.5-3wt.%. Crystalline V silicate has a ZSM-5 type zeolite structure and is suitable as catalyst, after activation, in cracking and hydrocracking processes, and in the conversion of methanol to unsatd. hydrocarbon.

Abstract: Removal of S cpds. from gaseous or liquid hydrocarbons by contact with solid absorbents at 15-100 degrees C, derived from cpds. of formula Me2+6 Me3+2 (OH)16CO3.4H2O, by calcination and subsequent reduction in hydrogen, and in which Me2+ is Fe, Cu, Co or Ni and Me3+ is Al or Cr. Used for treatment of fractions with upper boiling limit up to 250 degrees C, e.g. refinery gases, liquid gases (e.g. propane and butane), petrol fractions and esp. kerosene fractions. The hydrocarbons can be treated in gas or liquid phase at relatively low temps. (below 100 degrees C) and sulphur contents below 1 ppm obtained, as required in jet fuels. The absorbent can be highly loaded with hydrocarbon throughputs of 1-10 kg/l/h. Where the initial S content is low, the metal content in the absorbent can be small e.g. by dispersing on an alumina-silica carrier.

Abstract: A process for the manufacture of acicular ferrimagnetic iron oxide by heating iron(III) oxide or iron(III) oxide hydroxide at 220 DEG -460 DEG C. under a water vapor partial pressure of not less than 30 mbar, reducing the resulting product to magnetite by means of hydrogen and/or CO and/or an organic compound which can decompose in the presence of iron oxide, and then oxidizing the magnetite with an oxygen-containing gas to give acicular ferrimagnetic iron oxide of the formula FeOX, where X is from 1.33 to 1.50.
