    Abstract: A thermoplastic moulding composition contains (A) 10-40 wt.% polycarbonate(s); (B) 5-40 wt.% graft copolymer mixture; (C) 1-60 wt.% thermoplastic copolymer of (c1) 50-80 wt.% styrene and (c2) 20-50 wt.% (meth)acrylonitrile; (D) 1-82.9 wt.% different thermoplastic copolymer of (d1) 60-90 wt.% styrene and (d2) 10-40 wt.% (meth)acrylonitrile, such that the weight fraction of (meth)acrylonitrile in (D) is less than that in (C); (E) 1-40 wt.% thermoplastic copolymer; (F) 0.1-15 wt.% carbon (C) black and/or other pigment(s); and (G) 0-30 wt.% additive(s) and/or processing aid(s). The graft copolymer mixture (B) comprises (B1) 2-98 wt.% graft copolymer of (b11) 40-80 wt.% graft substrate, (b12) 5-20 wt.% first grafted layer of vinyl-aromatic compound(s) of formula (I) and (b13) 15-40 wt.% second grafted layer and (B2) 2-98 wt.% graft copolymer of (b21) 40-80 wt.% graft substrate and (b22) 20-60 wt.% grafted layer. Grafted layers (b13) and (b22) consist of ( alpha ) 50- 95 wt.% (I) and/or methyl (meth)acrylate and ( beta ) 5-50 wt.% (meth)acrylonitrile, methyl methacrylate, maleic anhydride and/or N-(1-8C alkyl- or 6-20C aryl)-maleimide(s); and both graft substrates have a glass transition temperature (Tg) of below 10 deg C, whilst the weight average particle size of the graft copolymers is 200-700 nm for (B1) and 50-180 nm for (B2). Thermoplastic copolymer (E) comprises (e1) 50-85 wt.% alpha -methylstyrene, (e2) 15-50 wt.% acrylonitrile and (e3) 0-15 wt.% vinyl-aromatic compound of formula (II). In the formulae, R is hydrogen (H) or 1-6C alkyl; R is a 1-6C alkyl; and n = 0, 1, 2 or 3.

    Abstract: The invention relates to flame-resistant thermoplastic moulding materials, containing (A) at least one polyphenylene ether and (B) at least one vinyl aromatic polymer, which are characterised in that they contain (C) as a flame-protection agent a mixture of (C1) at least one oligo phosphorus compound of general formula (I) and/or (II), in which R and R are independently of each other optionally substituted alkyl or aryl; R and R are independently of each other optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, alkoxy or aryloxy; R is alkylene, -SO2-, -CO-, -N=N- or -(R )P(O)-, R being optionally substituted alkyl, aryl or alkylaryl; and n and p including independently of each other have a value of from 1 to 30; and (C2) at least one phosphine oxide of general formula (III) in which R , R and R are independently of each other a hydrogen atom, optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, alkylaryl or cycloalkyl with up to 40 C-atoms. The invention also relates to the use of said flame-resistant thermoplastic moulding materials to produce flame-resistant moulded structures, fibres and sheets.

    Abstract: Thermoplastic moulding compounds contain, in relation to the total weight of the moulding compound: (A) 72 to 88.5 wt % of a thermoplastic polymer which, in relation to (A), consists of (a1) 50 to 100 wt % styrene or alpha -methylstyrene or their mixtures; (a2) 0 to 50 wt % acryl nitrile; (a3) 0 to 50 wt % one or several other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers; (B) 10 to 20 wt % of a first graft polymer with a mean particle diameter d50 of 400 to 600 nm and which, in relation to B, consists of (b1) 30 to 90 wt % of a rubber elastic graft core (with (b11) 80 to 99.99 wt % n-butylacrylate, (b12) 0.01 to 20 wt % of at least one cross-linking monomer, (b13) 0 to 40 wt % one or several other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers); (b2) 10 to 70 wt % of a graft shell (with in relation to (b2): (b21) 50 to 100 wt % styrene or alpha -methylstyrene or their mixtures, (b22) 0 to 50 wt % acryl nitrile, (b23) 0 to 50 wt % of one or several other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers); (C) 1.5 to 8 wt % of a second graft polymer with bimodal particle size distribution with mean particle diameters d50 of 25 to 200 nm on the one hand and 350 to 550 nm on the other hand, and which, in relation to (C), consists of (c1) 30 to 90 wt % of a rubber elastic graft core (with (c11) 50 to 100 wt % butadiene or isoprene or their mixtures, (c12) 0 to 50 wt % one or several other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers); (c2) 10 to 70 wt % of a graft shell (with (c21) 50 to 100 wt % styrene or alpha -methylstyrene or their mixtures, (c22) 0 to 50 wt % acryl nitrile, (c23) 0 to 50 wt % one or several other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers); (D) 0 to 50 wt % parting agents or mould release agents, pigments, dyes, fire-proofing agents, antioxidants, stabilisers against exposure to light, fibrous or powdery fillers or reinforcing agents or antistatic agents, or other additives or their mixtures. The sum of graft polymers (B) and (C) equals 11.5 to 25 wt % of the sum of the three components (A), (B) and (C), and the sum of the four components (A) to (D) equals 100 wt %.

The inventive material can be obtained by 1) producing the graft polymers A) according to the emulsion polymerization method, 2) mixing the graft polymer A) with polymer B) and, insofar as they are available, the other constituents C), D), E) and/or F) in a mixing device, whereby a substantially molten polymer mixture arises and 3) rapidly cooling the substantially molten polymer mixture.

    Abstract: In a process for producing modified rubber moulding masses, a first mixture (A) that contains at least one alkyl acrylate or methacrylate (a) having the general formula (I), in which R stands for a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and R stands for an alkyl group with 1 to 32 carbon atoms, at least one first monomer (b) that forms radicals by thermal decomposition, and optionally a second or several other monomers (c), is in a first step polymerised into a rubber (B), preferably together with free radicals. In a second step, the thus obtained rubber (B) is mixed with a third or several other monomers (d), preferably dissolved or dipped therein, to form a second mixture (C), and in a third step the second mixture (C) is polymerised with free radicals into the modified rubber moulding mass (D).
