Abstract: System for measuring the effective index of refraction of a group of optical fibres, in which one sends into a piece 2 of fibre being examined the radiation emitted by a source 1 of variable wavelength and performs a Fourier analysis of the spectral transmission function of the fibre, considered as a resonating cavity. Between the source 1 and a computer 7 performing said analysis are arranged means 4 of measuring the wavelength of the radiation emitted by the source 1, which operate by producing a staggering of the optical frequencies relative to the radio frequencies.
