    Abstract: Apparatus for measuring the effective refractive index in optical fibres, in which a source (1) sends light radiations, the wavelength of which can be varied within a predetermined interval, into a fibre span (2), and a detector (5) collects the radiation outgoing from the span (2) and is connected with means (6, 7) for measuring the intensity of the radiation collected by the detector as the wavelength varies, in order to determine the oscillation period of the fibre transmittance or reflectivity and to obtain the effective refractive index from such period.
