    Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture for determining modified data in cache for use during a recovery operation. An event is detected during which processing of writes to a storage device is suspended. A cache including modified data not destaged to the storage device is scanned to determine the data units having modified data in response to detecting the event. The data units having the modified data is indicated in a backup storage. The indication of the data units having the modified data in the backup storage is used during a recovery operation.

    Abstract: A self-contained backup power source (135) such as a battery is provided for components (100) within an electrically powered device such as a storage controller, photocopier or the like, to maintain diagnostic status data and to power a service indicator aid, or diagnostic indicator (105) , such as an LED. A switch (130) selects the backup power source when a primary power source (170) of the electrically powered device is no longer available to the component, such as when the component is removed from the electrically powered device, the primary power source is disconnected as a safety precaution when servicing or replacing the component, or a higher-level assembly, in which the component is provided, is removed from the electrically powered device. The diagnostic indicator may be powered separately from the data storage device.

    Abstract: Bereitgestellt werden verschiedene Ausführungsformen zum Bewahren von Datenredundanz in einem Datendeduplizierungssystem in einer Datenverarbeitungsumgebung. Bei einer Ausführungsform wird ein Verfahren für eine derartige Bewahrung offenbart. Ein Anzeiger wird konfiguriert. Der Anzeiger wird mit einem ausgewählten Datensegment bereitgestellt, das durch das Datendeduplizierungssystem geschrieben werden soll, um anzuzeigen, dass das ausgewählte Datensegment keiner Deduplizierungsoperation unterzogen werden darf, so dass wiederholte Daten in physische Speicherstellen geschrieben und dort gespeichert werden können, obwohl sie identisch sind.

    Abstract: Various embodiments for preserving data redundancy in a data deduplication system in a computing environment are provided. In one embodiment a method for such preservation is disclosed. A selected data segment to be written through the data deduplication system is encrypted such that the selected data segment is not subject to a deduplication operation. Other system and computer program product embodiments are disclosed and provide related advantages.
