    Abstract: A disk drive 10 has at least one disk 16 for data storage. A head 30 supported by an actuator 32 is used for data transfer with the disk. The head is returned to a landing region 26 on the disk when the disk drive is not in operation. The actuator is then locked to retain the head there and prevent accidental loss of data from the disk. Actuator lock 62 includes a latch 68 which cooperates with a notch 60 in the actuator, and a vane 70. Air flow generated by the rotation of the disk causes a pressure on the vane which acts to release the latch. To ensure that sufficient air flow pressure is generated to release the latch, thereby unlocking the actuator, the disk is initially rotated at a high speed. Once the actuator has been unlocked, the disk rotation speed can be reduced to that used in normal data transfer operations.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To hold a head at a landing area by fixing a magnetic material so as to function on an area with strong leakage magnetic flux as moving the head from the data recording area of a disk to the landing area. CONSTITUTION:The head 30 is mounted at one end of an actuator 32, and the actuator 32 is mounted at a base via a shaft 36 in such a way that it can be turned via a shaft 34. And the actuator 32 is turned with respect to the prescribed shaft 34 so as to move the head 30 from the data recording area 22 of the disk 16 to the landing area 26. According to the above action, the magnetic material 90 fixed at the actuator 32 is located at a position where it is moved to the areas 56 and 58 with strong leakage magnetic flux of a magnet. Then, the magnetic material 90 is fixed at a prescribed position on a disk 16 side between the shaft 34 of the actuator 32 and an end part on an opposite side, then, is held at the area 26.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance by forming a data track in a spiral state with the use of the servo area arranged in the peripheral direction of a disk at every specified space and unnecessitating the seek operation for the movement between tracks in the reading/writing operation for continued data. SOLUTION: The constitution is made in such a manner that the target value of a PES(position error signal) obtained from servo signals which are buried on the track with the specified spaces, is successively changed for realizing the spiral track by reading the PES which is the conventional servo information. In the case of the disk device performing the positional control with the PES obtained from each servo area in the disk which is provided with the servo area of 60 pieces per one round of the disk, when the values available for the PES as the information on each position in the width direction of one track are taken as 256 kinds, the positional control of the head is executed by the value set by succesively shifting the target value of PES for every 256/60 track position in each of 60 servo positions. By such a positional control, the head is moved in accordance with the target PES values different for every servo area, thereby, the spiral track is followed up.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To separate a lock member without increasing the thickness and weight of a disk device by increasing the rotating speed of a disk driving motor for a prescribed time after a power source is applied, and releasing the lock of an actuator by increasing an air flow force by the rotation of a disk. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic hard disk 16 is turned at speed higher than that in a write or readout operation by a microprocessor, etc., provided with a timer means, etc., for the prescribed time after the power source is applied. Thereby, the air flow force A functioning on a wing 70 can be increased compared with a bias force B applied on the wing 70 interlocking with the lock member 68 and placing a head 30 in a landing area 26 by locking the actuator 32. And the member 68 is separated via the wing 70, and the lock of the actuator 32 by the member 68 is released, and the head 30 can be moved to a data recording area 22, thereby, the separation of the lock member can be performed without increasing the thickness and the weight of the disk device.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent frictional force from increasing by providing a cage holding a ball disposed between an inner race and an outer race of a bearing to be used for mounting a carriage supporting a head on a base within a prescribed range with a hole for supplying grease which extends toward the ball. CONSTITUTION: An upper bearing part 1U is provided with an outer race 8U which is disposed coaxially with an inner race 6U so as to be opposed to the inner race 6U and a cage 12U constituted of a hollow cylindrical member in which a plurality of recessed part 11U storing a plurality of balls 10U disposed between the inner race 6U and the outer race 8U one by one are formed on a lower surface. Because cages 12U, 12D are provided with holes 18U, 18D for supplying grease which extend toward each of balls 10U, 10D, grease is supplied to only balls 10U, 10D which actually require lubrication. Therefore, extra grease does not enter a gap between a shaft 2 and the cages 12U, 12D, and frictional force between the shaft 2 and the bearing 1 is not increased.
