    Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent the disk surface from deteriorating due to its contact with a head by making at least a start-stop region an inclined surface inclined to the side of its back surface in accordance with the radial direction from the inner side to the outer side. CONSTITUTION: The start-stop region 1A of the head is formed on the inner circumferential side of the surface of the disk 1, and a data storage region 1B is formed on the outer circumferential side of the region 1A. The surface of this disk 1 is made to be a truncated conical surface at a prescribed slope angle θ1 from the inner circumferential side toward the outer side over the whole range including the region 1A and the region 1B. Such a disk 1 is used to be set up in a linear actuator type hard disk device or a rotary actuator type hard disk device. By forming this shape, the head positioned in the region 1A can be given an apparent crown, and as a result, the head can quickly be floated up above the region 1A at the starting time of rotating the disk.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a servo tracking performance in a low frequency region without losing the stability of seek operations. SOLUTION: The position control system of the magnetic head is provided with two integrators; a 1st integrator 43 and a 2nd integrator 45. A gain K3' of the 2nd integrator 45 is set higher than a gain K3 of the 1st integrator 43. The 1st integrator 43 play a role of canceling a bias force acted on the magnetic head and the 2nd integrator 45 play a role of improving the servo tracking characteristic in the low frequency region.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely unload a head slider. SOLUTION: A transistor Tr5 is made to be in ON. When a main power source Vdd is turned OFF at a time t1, transistors Tr1, Tr2 and a diode D1 are turned OFF and the level of a control signal Ret becomes higher than threshold voltages Vth of transistors Tr3, Tr4 to turn transistors Tr3, Tr4 OFF. Moreover, a capacitor C1 starts a discharge. A control signal InRet changes to 'L' level and a control signal OutRet does not change while being kept in 'L'. As a result, an IR(inner retract) driver 133aa makes the VCM(voice coil motor) current of a negative polarity flow through a voice coil 5 to preliminarily move a head arm to a direction opposite to an unload direction. Next, when it becomes a time t2 and the level of the control signal Ret becomes the level of not larger than the threshold voltages Vth, the control signals InRet and OutRet both change to 'H' and the IR driver 13aa stops the operation and an OR(outer retract) driver 13ab reverses the moving direction of the head arm by making the VCM current of a possitive polarity flow through the voice coil 5.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance by forming a data track in a spiral state with the use of the servo area arranged in the peripheral direction of a disk at every specified space and unnecessitating the seek operation for the movement between tracks in the reading/writing operation for continued data. SOLUTION: The constitution is made in such a manner that the target value of a PES(position error signal) obtained from servo signals which are buried on the track with the specified spaces, is successively changed for realizing the spiral track by reading the PES which is the conventional servo information. In the case of the disk device performing the positional control with the PES obtained from each servo area in the disk which is provided with the servo area of 60 pieces per one round of the disk, when the values available for the PES as the information on each position in the width direction of one track are taken as 256 kinds, the positional control of the head is executed by the value set by succesively shifting the target value of PES for every 256/60 track position in each of 60 servo positions. By such a positional control, the head is moved in accordance with the target PES values different for every servo area, thereby, the spiral track is followed up.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an error caused by disc shift by performing connection to the head position control means for filter means depending on the determined amount of disc shift. SOLUTION: Filter table of a head A is prepared by performing a flow for the turn on of power. A filter is turned on and a microcode on a disc is read out. In this regard, a filter is used based on a prepared table. A preset shift criterion is read out and the read head is changed to a head B. Preparation of a filter table for the head B is then started and a table is prepared for the table. If an error occurs during preparation of the table to cause a time-out, 0 is written on the table thus preparing a table. Subsequently, a maximum value of stable variable X is searched on the table and the shift state is discussed for every head. The shift state is discussed based on the table and if not a11=0 on the table, it is judged that the table is prepared normally.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for minimizing the adverse influence of a crown to be given to the flying height of a slider by the change of a manufacturing process or temperature and an improved slider shape. SOLUTION: The method for reducing the change of a flying height by a crown has the step of moving the top of the crown toward the front end 28 of a slider. The movement of the top 53 of the slider having a symmetrical crown is conducted by fixing the suspension to the connecting surface 23 of the slider near the front end. The connecting process applies the moving fore to the slider to effectively move it. Another method shapes the row of the slider by sand or bead blast finishing before a rail shape is formed.
