Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize connection with less optical loss by tunning with a connector, in the case of inconsistency on the X, Y and Z axes in a connecting adaptor, in an optical fiber connector to be connected to a back plane/wall. SOLUTION: With the connector end tapered, the inconsistency on the X and Y axes is corrected. Also, by shortening the tip end part, a ferrule is projected beyond the optical plane, dealing with the inconsistency on the Z axis. Further, by attaching a spring part, a ferrule length inside the adaptor is adjustable. Furthermore, a large diameter part is made in barrel assembly to be stored in the housing and a recess is mad in the axis hole of a housing, thereby preventing rotation of the assembly in insertion. Thus, it is possible to connect with the adaptor while optical loss is suppressed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connector for terminating optical fibers. SOLUTION: This connector 10 is provided with an integrated housing 20, a ferrule assembly 11 and an insert 24. The insert is provided with a key 31 paired with key grooves 32 formed in the housing. The housing is provided with a first opening receiving the ferrule assembly, and next the insert and a second opening facing the first opening. The end part of the ferrule assembly is protruded, passing through the second opening. The insert is provided with a flange 25 having two flat surfaces which are arranged oppositely and two keys which are arranged oppositely. A nearly rectangular cross section is imparted to the flange by the key and the flat surfaces 33 of the flange. When the insert is inserted into a first end of the housing, the key of the flange is lined up with the key grooves of the housing. When the insert is inserted into the housing, the insert is locked to a prescribed position within the housing by the key and the key grooves.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the integrated receptacle for fitting to a panel which makes a high-density optical mutual connection structure compact. SOLUTION: The receptacle 40 is molded out of a thermoplastic material almost in a rectangular shape and includes at least one cavity 460 which is surrounded with four side walls. The cavity has an opening for receiving an optical connector at its front end and another opening 422 for receiving a cylindrical positioning sleeve 440 at its rear end. A couple of cantilevers 410 are provided on the top surface 415 and another couple of cantilevers are provided on the bottom surface 416. The receptacle 40 has a flange 412 at its rear end and catches a panel edge between the flange 412 and the free ends of the cantilevers in cooperation with the free ends. On the opposite side of each cavity 460, a tab holding shoulder is provided which mutually meshes with the projection of the latching tab 120 of the optical connector.

Abstract: The present invention provides a connector for terminating an optical fiber. The connector comprises a one-piece housing, a ferrule assembly and an insert. T he insert has keys formed thereon that are adapted to mate with keyways formed in the housing. The housing has a first opening formed therein that first receives the ferrule assembly and then the insert and a second opening opposite the first opening. The end of the ferrule assembly that holds the end of the optical fiber protrudes through the secon d opening. The insert has a flange thereon that has two oppositely located flat surface s and two oppositely located keys. The keys each have a chamfered surface. The keys an d the flat surfaces of the flange provide the flange with a substantially rectangular cross-section. The first opening formed in the housing has a substantially square cross- section. When the insert is inserted into the first end of the housing, the substantially squa re cross-section of the opening aligns with the oppositely located flat surfaces of the flange t o thereby cause the keys of the flange to align with the keyways formed in the surfaces of t he housing. The chamfered surfaces of the keys deflect the sides of the housing outwardl y as the insert is inserted into the housing. The keys of the insert are then received bythe keyways formed in the housing to lock the insert into place within the housing.

Abstract: A plug type connector is adapted to be latched to a backplane wall in a fixed position and has a tapered front, noses or connector end for insertion into an adapter which plugs into the backplane wall. The adapter may be misaligned in any or all of the X, Y, Z axes. The tapered nose cams the X or Y misaligned adapter into axial alignment as the adapter and its mount are being inserted. A shortened front or connector end of the connector causes the ferrule of the connector to project beyond the optical plane of the connection so that it reaches a ferrule in a Z aligned adapter to complete the connection. A coil spring within the housing of the connector is tuned to allow counter movement of the ferrule where the ferrule in the adapter is too long, thereby shifting the position of the optical plane. The connector has a ferrule-barrel assembly within a housing and an insert member which has an enlarged diameter portion which is contained by openings in the housing to prevent rotation of the ferrule-barrel assembly

Abstract: A unipartite (one-piece) jack receptacle 40 for mounting in a panel 200 provides a compact structure for high density optical interconnections. The receptacle is molded from thermoplastic materiel into a generally rectangular shape and includes at least one cavity 460 surrounded by four sidewalls. The cavity includes one opening in its front end for receiving an optical connector 10 and another opening 422 in its back end for receiving a cylindrical alignment sleeve 440. Each opening extends into the cavity. One pair of panel-locking members (cantilevers) 410 is mounted on the top side 415 of the receptacle and another pair of cantilevers is mounted on its bottom side 416. Each cantilever includes a free-end portion that deflects into the cavity. The receptacle further includes a flange 412 on its back end that cooperates with a smooth tapered wall 411 on the free-end portion of the cantilever to capture a panel edge therebetween in a self-tightening fit. Molded into opposite sidewalls of each cavity are tab-retaining shoulders for interlocking with projections 121 on a latching tab 120 of the optical connector. A pair of identical jack receptacles 40 are joined together, back to back, to form an adapter 400. Cylindrical pins 423 and holes 421 are located on the back surface 420 of each receptacle to facilitate assembly. The pins have slightly larger diameters than the holes so that the receptacles can be press-fit together without the use of adhesives or other bonding techniques.
