Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber connector adjustable even after being completely assembled. SOLUTION: A connector 11 is provided with the assembly having the member or flange which has the peripheral edge with many cut surfaces, whose shape is preferably a hexagon and which holds an enlarged ferrule 27. The connector 11 is provided with the forward housing part having an attaching area with many cut surfaces for the flange 26. The flange 26 can be separated from the attaching area for the rotation for adjustment because of being movable in the axial direction toward the back side of the housing against force of a spring. The connector 11 is adjustable by the increased rotation of the assembly when the flange 26 is separated.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adjusting wrench for adjusting an optical fiber connector. SOLUTION: The limited part extending from the enlarged part of an adjusting wrench is provided with the diameter larger than that of the opening of the ferrule housing part of an optical connector. A tubular member is projected from the limited part and the dimension of inside diameter is decided so as to slide the ferrule of the connector. The end of the tubular member 91 is provided with a pair of tanks 92, 93, which are composed so as to be adaptable to the inside of the front of the flange part of the ferrule barrel member of the connector or to the opening existing in the inside of the front. The distance from the surface of the limited member 86 to the tank is set so that the flange 26 is moved backward from meshing with the housing or the surface of the limited member 86 is abutted against the front surface of the housing before a spring member is bottomed within the housing by a pressure in the axial direction by means of the wrench. A ferrule barrel assembly is rotated with the wrench and whereby the angular direction of the eccentric vector of the ferrule is changed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize connection with less optical loss by tunning with a connector, in the case of inconsistency on the X, Y and Z axes in a connecting adaptor, in an optical fiber connector to be connected to a back plane/wall. SOLUTION: With the connector end tapered, the inconsistency on the X and Y axes is corrected. Also, by shortening the tip end part, a ferrule is projected beyond the optical plane, dealing with the inconsistency on the Z axis. Further, by attaching a spring part, a ferrule length inside the adaptor is adjustable. Furthermore, a large diameter part is made in barrel assembly to be stored in the housing and a recess is mad in the axis hole of a housing, thereby preventing rotation of the assembly in insertion. Thus, it is possible to connect with the adaptor while optical loss is suppressed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adjustable connector adaptor for optical fibers. SOLUTION: The adjustable adaptor is capable of making adjustment for the purpose of connecting an optical fiber connector to other device. The adjustable adaptor includes a housing, in which a disk member is arranged. The disk member is equipped with a connector receiving jack, the axis of which is surrounded with the array of positioning members. Further, in the housing, a movable wall member is arranged, which has a connector receiving jack extending from the member, with the axis of the jack surrounded with the array of positioning members for meshing with the positioning members of a fixed disk member. The movable wall member is biased towards the disk member so that the two positioning members are engaged with each other in the normal operation. With the movable wall member pulled to the nearer side so as to make it disengaged, it becomes rotatable, thereby making the adaptor adjustable in the manner that the eccentric vectors of two connectors are roughly matched to each other.

The connector adapter 63 of a second member is aligned in the axial direction with the adapter within the first member. The movable member is increasingly rotated with respect to the fixing member by being pulled against the force of the spring in order to separate the ferrule of the connector within the adapter. The adapter is aligned within a split sleeve. An insertion loss is changed because of the rotation in the direction of an eccentric vector with respect to two connectors.

Abstract: A tunable adapter for joining optical fiber connectors with other elements has a housing (12) in which are contained a fixed disc member (28) having a connector receiving jack (19) mounted thereon, the axis of which is surrounded by an array of indexing member (41). Abstract: A tuning wrench for tuning optical fiber connectors has an enlarged portion from which extends a limiting portion having a diameter greater than the diameter of the opening in the ferrule housing portion of an optical connector. A tubular member protrudes from the limiting portion and has an internal diameter dimensioned to slide over the connector ferrule. The distal end of the tubular member has a pair of tangs adapted to fit within or openings in the front of the flange portion of the ferrule-barrel member of the connector. The distance from the face of the limiting member t o the tangs is such that axial pressure on the wrench moves the flange rearwardly out of engagement with its housing but the face of the limiting member butts agains t the front of the housing before the spring member within the housing bottoms. Rotation of the wrench thus causes rotation of the ferrule-barrel assembly to alter the angular orientation of the eccentricity vector of the ferrule.

Abstract: A plug type connector is adapted to be latched to a backplane wall in a fixed position and has a tapered front, noses or connector end for insertion into an adapter which plugs into the backplane wall. The adapter may be misaligned in any or all of the X, Y, Z axes. The tapered nose cams the X or Y misaligned adapter into axial alignment as the adapter and its mount are being inserted. A shortened front or connector end of the connector causes the ferrule of the connector to project beyond the optical plane of the connection so that it reaches a ferrule in a Z aligned adapter to complete the connection. A coil spring within the housing of the connector is tuned to allow counter movement of the ferrule where the ferrule in the adapter is too long, thereby shifting the position of the optical plane. The connector has a ferrule-barrel assembly within a housing and an insert member which has an enlarged diameter portion which is contained by openings in the housing to prevent rotation of the ferrule-barrel assembly
