Abstract: Poly-p-xylylene is utilized for a thin conformal dielectric coating on metallized discs. The poly-p-xylylene coating is deposited by vapor deposition and then hardened by exposure to a glow discharge. A method of hardening a polymeric dielectric coating by exposure to a glow discharge after the coating has been deposited on the disc.

Abstract: 1413246 Coated products R C A CORPORATION 13 April 1973 [19 April 1972] 17796/73 Heading B2E [Also in Division G5] Method of coating a record disc having a spiral groove which may not be of uniform depth and cross sectional radius over its length with a photo-resist such that the coated groove has a more uniform depth and radius comprises the steps of applying an excess of photo resist solution having a viscosity of 0.1-200 cps to the grooved surface when the disc is rotating at 100-2000 r.p.m. for a period of about 1 minute to drive off the excess and then reducing the speed to 2-10 r.p.m. until the coating has dried. In a specific example the photo resist solution contains 19.5% by weight of solids, has a viscosity of 4.5-4.6 cps and a specific gravity of 1.0 to 1.01.

Abstract: 1445546 Coating RCA CORPORATION 28 Jan 1975 [4 Feb 1974] 3735/75 Heading B2E [Also in Division C7] Coatings of polymers hardenable by crosslinking are hardened by exposure to a glow discharge. The polymer may be a poly-p-xylylene, e.g. poly-p-chloro-xylylene. The method may be used to apply a coating of these polymers to a conductive disc having information recorded thereon in the form of geometric variations in the surface. The polymers may be applied in the vapour state. The coated disc may be further coated with a lubricant such as 50 centistoke viscosity methyl alkyl silicone. In the Example a vinyl disc is metallized by vapour deposition of gold and coated with poly-p-chloro-xylylene. It was then placed in a vacuum chamber between two spaced electrodes for treatment by glow discharge.
