    Abstract: A bus switch (40) providing versatile data path routing between a first group of buses (10) associated with a disk array controller and a second group of buses (20) associated with the individual disk drives within the disk array includes a plurality of bus multiplexers (141-146), equal in number to the number of drive buses. Each bus multiplexer (141-146) includes a plurality of inputs, each input being connected to a corresponding one of the controller buses. The multiplexers (141-146) are responsive to select and enable signals to connect selected controller buses to selected drive buses. The bus switch (20) additionally includes a plurality of bus multiplexers (151-154) for directing data from the drive busses to the controller busses. A parity generator (50) is coupled to the controller buses and to a further multiplexer (155) in the bus switch (20). The output of the parity generator (50) is also provided to each of the multiplexers (141-146;151-154) and can be directed thereby to any of the controller or drive buses.

    Abstract: A process for forming trench-like isolation structures situated in a semiconductor substrate between adjacent regions of substrate and epitaxial silicon. The trench-like structures include a relatively thick high dielectric constant material enclosed by a relatively thinner pad/buffer dielectric layer. The fabrication of the trench-like isolation regions commences with the formation of recesses with substantially vertical sidewalls into the silicon substrate, the conformal deposition of the relatively thin pad dielectric, and the conformal deposition of a relatively thicker high dielectric constant material. Anisotropic etching is then applied to retain the two dielectric layers along the vertically disposed walls of the recesses. A second conformal deposition of thin pad dielectric, followed by anisotropic etch to expose the substrate at the bottoms of the recesses, results in a sidewall structure with a high dielectric constant material enclosed within pad dielectric material. Selective epitaxial growth of semiconductor from the exposed substrate at the bottoms of the recesses is continued until the recess is substantially full. A planarization of the concluding structure produces trench-like dielectric filled regions of relatively narrow dimension and potentially deep penetration between adjacent substrate and epitaxial semiconductor regions.

    Abstract: Current monitoring cells (12) are located at selected locations on power supply lines (16) within a chip. Each cell (12) compares the current flow at predetermined times with a reference. If the current exceeds the reference, a signal is provided indicating a fault in the chip. A flip flop (30) in the cell is set to maintain an indication of the fault condition. In two embodiments, the cells are connected with a scan chain which is used to sequentially access the test results for each cell. A third embodiment does not include the scan chain but the cells (12) are individually selectable. A current divider (56) may be included in each cell to isolate the voltage drop of the fault sensor from the functional circuit to minimize the impact of measuring the current for fault detection purposes.
