A repeater has multiple operation terminal connections to which operation terminals are connected, multiple external memory device connections that are set in correspondence with the operation terminal connections and to which external memory devices are connected, and a main body connection terminal with which an electronic device main body is connected. The repeater makes possible communication between electronic device main body and connected operation terminals and external memory devices. An independent operation terminal communication system and an independent external memory device communication system are integrated into a main body connection terminal, hereby enabling simultaneous connection of such communication systems with the operation terminal connection and memory device connection on the electronic device main body.

A position control method, which positions the relative position of an optical disk and an optical pickup to a position that provides the optimum value of the jitter value of the detection signal obtained by detecting the reflected light of an optical spot, has a jitter value acquisition procedure, which carries out multiple feed operations within the adjustment range of the relative position and obtains the jitter value at each feed position, an edge position setting procedure which sets as the edge positions relative positions that exceed a prescribed preset jitter threshold value, an optimum position computation procedure, which computes the optimum position that yields the optimum value for the jitter value, and an edge position setting procedure that sets the edge positions on the condition that there are at least two relative positions that yield a jitter value that exceeds the jitter threshold value.

In a method using a computer and a recording medium to make message display quantity in game software into an easy-to-use interface quantity of messages displayed on a screen of the computer by a controller which has a pressure sensing unit. An operation pressure of a user on the controller is detected by the pressure sensing unit and a pressure sensing output value that corresponds to the operation pressure is generated. The number of message display frames that corresponds to the pressure sensing output value is determined, and that number of message display frames are displayed on the screen or monitor all at once.

A portable electronic device has an interface for connecting it to a parent machine that has the function of executing programs. The portable electronic device further including a program storage unit, a control unit that controls execution of the programs, a display that displays information according to the executed programs, an operation input unit for operating the programs, and a power supply unit that supplies power to each of those units. Information accompanying the execution of a calculator program is transferred from the parent machine to the portable electronic device, and it executes a calculator program stored in the program storage unit by the control unit based on the transferred information.

The memory card holds these device drivers as a device driver data file. The data in a plurality of fields in objective words to be inputted to the ALU (330) are exchanged as necessary by means of data exchange units EXC (310) and EXC (320) provided between the buses (360, 370) and the ALU (330). Therefore, the function of arithmetic operation between the plurality of fields in the same word to be processed can be realized in a fewer number of steps than the conventional.

An operating device used to operate a game machine with which a television game is played, comprising a device body, and first and second grips projecting from one side of both end portions. The body is provided at one end portion thereof with a first operating member, and at the other with a second operating member. The first and second operating members are provided with a plurality of push members projecting from the upper surface of the operator body, and a plurality of signal input elements pressed by these push members. The body is further provided at portions opposed the base end portions of the first and second grips with third and fourth operating members having rotary operating members and signal input elements operated by the rotary operating members. The third and fourth operating members are operated by the thumbs of the user while the first and second grips are held by other fingers. Data necessary for drawing is generated by a pre-processing in a pre-processor (32) on the basis of a drawing command for drawing an image model defined by the combination of unit graphics. To generate image data of the unit graphic by a texture mapping processing on the basis of this data and to write it to a frame buffer (18), texture data required by a drawing engine (33) is transferred from a texture area on the frame buffer (18) to a texture cache 33F at the stage of the pre-processing, and the pre-processor (32) and the drawing engine (33) are operated by a pipeline. In this way, the texture mapping processing and a MIP mapping processing are executed without stopping the drawing device, and the number of times of access to the texture memory and the access time are reduced so as to improve an overall drawing speed.
