Abstract: PURPOSE: An actuator arm to limit moving of hard disc within hard disc drive is provided to prevent contact between arm and data zone and to protect data from impact by supplying an actuator arm having a several ridge extended from actuator beam. CONSTITUTION: A bearing installation part(32) is there. A voice coil part(38) is extended from the bearing installation part(32). An actuator arm(22) is extended from the bearing installation(32) and includes an actuator beam(30) having a ridge(44). The ridge(44) is positioned adjacent to non-data zones(46) which exist in outside part of disc(16). Non-data zones(46) is positioned adjacent to data zone(48) of disc surface(28). An impact rod can transfer the disc in relation with the actuator arm(22). The ridge(44) intervenes non-data zones of the disc(16) and prevents contacts between the actuator arm(22) and the data zone(48). The ridge has a height to allow sufficient clearance between the arm(22) and the disc surface(28) and can be rotated among beams(30).

Abstract: PURPOSE: An apparatus for fixing an actuator of a hard disk drive is provided to reduce the cost for manufacturing by decreasing the number of elements of the apparatus. CONSTITUTION: A cylinder-typed boss(1) is integrally formed at a position to be a center of mass of an actuator(32) being combined to a base plate(30). The boss(1) is extended as a height of the center of mass. A pivot spring being mounting at the outer circumferential surface of the boss(1) comprises an inner ring ball race(39b), a ball(39a), and an outer ring ball race(39c). A bearing housing(38) is installed between the actuator(32) being fixed to the pivot spring and the pivot spring. The outer ring ball race(39c) of the pivot spring is fixed at an inner circumferential surface of the bearing housing(38) by a bonding. The inner ring ball race(39b) of the pivot spring is fixed at an outer circumferential surface of the boss(1) by a bonding. Thus, the pivot spring is surrounded with the boss(1) and the bearing housing(38).

Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for writing an embedded servo of an HDD(Hard Disk Drive) is provided not to use a servo writer using a laser controlling to directly drive an actuator and to record servo information on a magnetic disk, so as to reduce the production cost when the HDD enhances a TPI(Track Per Inch) for a high capacity. CONSTITUTION: An HDD(Hard Disk Drive) moves an actuator attaching magnetic heads, to be contacted with an external stopper, and locates the magnetic heads in an utmost outer track on corresponding disk surfaces, by a servo information recording control command. The HDD records corresponding location identification information in an area as much as a half of the utmost outer track, by the servo information recording control command. The HDD moves the heads to be located in an area as much as a remaining half of the utmost outer track, to an inner direction, by using the recorded location identification information as a location controlling value. The HDD records the location identification information in a location moved as much as the remaining half of the utmost outer track, by using the heads. The HDD sequentially moves the heads to the next inner track and records the location identification information, and servo-writes the entire track.

Abstract: A voice coil motor of a hard disc drive is provided to decrease vibration thereof when moving an HSA(Head Stack Assembly) and to improve data recording and reproducing performance. A voice coil motor of a hard disc drive comprises a voice coil(121), a first magnet(123A), and a second magnet. The voice coil is positioned at the rear end portion of an HSA. The first magnet is positioned on or under the voice coil to create a magnetic field around the voice coil. The second magnet guides the magnetic force line of the magnetic field created around the voice coil into a vertical line. The second magnet is positioned at the opposite side of the first magnet and the thickness thereof ranges from 0.1 to 1 millimeter. The intensity of magnetic force for the first magnet is stronger than that of the second magnet. The second magnet is attached to the inner surface of a cover member(103) for the hard disc drive and a base member(101).

Abstract: An HDD(Hard Disc Drive) and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to fix a position of an upper VCM(Voice Coil Motor) block of a VCM by using a crash stopper for limiting a pivot range of an actuator. Outer circumference parts of a base member(101) and a cover member are mutually combined to form an internal space. An actuator is installed on the base member(101) to be capable of being pivoted. A VCM(140) has a lower VCM block(141) and an upper VCM block(150). The lower VCM block(141) and the upper VCM block(150) are mutually separated so that a rear end part of the actuator is inserted between the lower VCM block(141) and the upper VCM block(150). A crash stopper(160) impacts against the rear end part of the actuator, and limits a pivot range of the actuator. An upper end part of the crash stopper(160) is contained in the upper VCM block(150) to prevent the position change of the upper VCM block(150) by disturbance.
