PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for estimating and equalizing a channel are provided to improve data receiving performance by performing the channel estimation and equalization with the size information of a received signal from a digital multimedia broadcasting system. CONSTITUTION: A first extraction module extracts the size information from a received signal(S310). A channel estimation module estimates a transmission channel with the filtering of the extracted size information(S320). An equalization module equalizes the extracted size information based on the estimated channel(S330). A second extraction module extracts an enhancement layer signal based on in the equalization signal of the equalization module. The second extraction module transmits the enhancement layer signal to the frequency deinterleaver(S340).

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for scheduling a bandwidth in a cable network are provided to increase the opportunity of a piggyback band request by arranging segment frames at a proper interval when allocating a band. CONSTITUTION: An operation unit(120) calculates a packet time interval value which maximizes a delayed time gain through received variable information, and a setup unit(130) sets up an algorithm for an Inter-channel band allocation of the network through the packet time interval value. A management unit(140) manages a CMTS(Cable Modem Termination System) according to the algorithm. IF a decision unit(160) judges the change of network, a control unit receives the variable information changed a receiving unit(110) again.

PURPOSE: A downloadable conditional access system, a channel setting method, and a message structure for 2-way communication between terminals are provided to enable a user to safely obtain the network access information of an authentication server from a terminal. CONSTITUTION: A downloadable conditional access system comprises a verification part(210), an extracting unit(230), and a channel setting part(240). The verification part verifies electronic signature and integrity on the message of an authentication server. The extracting unit extracts the network access information of the authentication server from the verified message. The channel setting part sets up the communications channel with the authentication server based on the extracted network access information.

PURPOSE: A method for providing a three dimensional data service based on DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) and a method for receiving the same are provided to supply a 3D data service more efficiently and conveniently while maintaining the backward compatability with the DMB that provides an existing 2D data service. CONSTITUTION: The main and supplementary data for data contents which are the target of the 3D data service are generated. Signaling information is generated, and includes channel ID information indicating not only the channel information that is additionally allocated to the main and supplementary data but also the dimension ID information that indicates the dimension of the data contents. A broadcasting stream including the signaling information is created, and a header of the additional data includes the information that defines the relationship with the main data.

PURPOSE: A receiving apparatus in a DMB system and a method thereof are provided to reduce influence of a deep null happening for an additional signal, thereby improving a channel feature of the additional signal. CONSTITUTION: Pilot signal detectors(103,104) detect pilot signals about each receiving signal. Channel estimators(105,106) perform channel estimation based on the detected pilot signals. The channel estimators generate channel profiles according to each additional signal. A diversity processor(107) synchronizes locations of main path signals of the additional signals.

PURPOSE: A device and a method of inserting information into a fast information channel are provided to easily add additional information to a fast information channel without changing a service. CONSTITUTION: A decoding unit(410) extracts the first fast information channel data from a transmission frame. An FIC modifier(420) performs re-multiplexing based on information to which data fields will be inserted for at least one block. The FIC modifier reconfigures the blocks to generate the second FIC data. An encoding unit(430) replaces the first FIC data with the second FIC data.

PURPOSE: An apparatus for transmitting and receiving digital multimedia broadcasting and a method thereof are provided to change the modulation system of the enhancement layer stream according to the broadcasting environment. CONSTITUTION: The base layer processing unit(103) outputs the base layer stream. The enhancement layer processing unit(104) outputs the enhancement layer stream. The transmission unit(105) modulates the enhancement layer stream among the first and second layer modulation mode based on one layer modulation mode. The transmission unit is proceed the mapping of the symbol of the enhancement layer stream based on the symbol location of the base layer stream. The transmission unit is created the transfer frame. The different modulation system is used to the first and second layer modulation mode.
