Abstract: A process is disclosed for continuously preparing polyamides from a mixture of at least one lactam and water, as well as if required other monomer units and/or usual additives and fillers in polyamide-forming conditions. The mixture of initial substances is heated in the liquid phase in a first reaction zone until a conversion rate of at least 70% is reached, then is adiabatically expanded and further polymerised in another reaction zone. In the first reaction zone, 0.5 to 7 % by weight water are added to the mixture, the mixture is heated up to a temperature range from 220 to 310 .degree.C and polymerised until a conversion rate of at least 85 % is reached. In the second reaction zone, after the mixture is expanded, it is further polymerised at temperatures in a range from 215 to 300 .degree.C without further heating.

Abstract: Nylons are prepared by a continuous process in which, in a precondensation zone, an aqueous solution of a salt of a dicarboxylic acid of 6 to 18 carbon atoms and a diamine of 6 to 18 carbon atoms is heated to 250 DEG -300 DEG C. under superatmospheric pressure, with simultaneous vaporization of water and formation of a prepolymer, the prepolymer and the vapor are separated, and the former is fed into a polycondensation zone and condensed under superatmospheric pressure of from 1 to 10 bar and at from 250 DEG to 300 DEG C., wherein the aqueous salt solution is condensed under superatomspheric pressure of from 1 to 10 bar in the first third of the tubular precondensation zone provided with baffles, until the degree of conversion is not less than 93%, and the prepolymer and the vapor phase are brought into intimate contact with one another in the remaining two thirds of the precondensation zone.

Abstract: A process for removing volatile constituents from a polymer melt in a vented extrude, which comprises: passing the polymer melt containing the volatile constituents through one or more zones, with continuous formation of fresh surfaces, evaporating volatile constituents from this polymer melt in one or more such zones, and removing the vapors of volatile constituents, thus produced, from the zone or zones via a porous plate having a porosity of from 25 to 60% and a pore diameter of from 5 to 200 .mu.m. And an apparatus to carry out this process.
