    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst capable of controlling the carried amount of active metals according to the depth of a ceramic powder or wash coat layer, highly active and great in purifying power by a method wherein either an oxidation or reduction catalyst or either honeycomb or pellet catalyst is easily produced according to the kinds of the active metals to be carried. CONSTITUTION:An active metal 21a is carried on the surface layer 20 of a ceramic powder layer 21 by ion implantation, this active metal carrying ceramic powder, together with a binder, is admixed with a solvent to prepare a slurry, a ceramic or metal made honeycomb carrier is immersed in this slurry, removed therefrom, dried and baked and a wash coat is formed on the wall surface of the honeycomb carrier.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce NOx in exhaust gas effectively by means of reduction catalyst in a diesel engine by supplying engine fuel as a reducing agent to NOx reduction catalyst capable of functioning even under coexistence with O2 in an exhaust gas passage of an engine. CONSTITUTION:NOx reduction catalyst 19 is provided in an exhaust gas passage 18 of an engine 11, and fuel for the engine 11 is supplied to its reduction catalyst 19 as a reducing agent. The fuel as the reducing agent is supplied by injecting the fuel into a combustion chamber of the engine 11 in an expansion stroke of the engine 11 or by injecting the fuel into the upstream part of the reduction catalyst 19 in the exhaust gas passage of the engine 11. By supplying the fuel for the diesel engine to the reduction catalyst 19, the reduction catalyst 19 is surrounded by a reducing atmosphere, so that reducing reaction to NOx in engine exhaust gas can be accelerated.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:In a mechanism which is provided in the exhaust passage of a diesel engine, and jets air toward a particulate filter to catch a particulate matter in an exhaust for tearing off the particulate matter, and burns it for its removal, and thereby regenerate the particulate filter, to carry out the tearing off of the particulate matter on not only a spot where the air strikes against but also the whole face of the filter uniformly. CONSTITUTION:Air jetted toward the downstream side of an exhaust through a nozzle 9 is returned into a conical chamber 7 by a returning plate 15, and passes through the chamber 7 toward a particulate filter 17 on the upstream side of the exhaust in a state where the air is decelerated for heightening its static pressure. The particulate matter can be uniformly teared off by utilizing the air under its static pressure instead of dynamic pressure.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To effectively reduce SOF and black smoke contained in exhaust gas, and thereby enhance an collection efficiency concerned by providing both oxidizing catalysts which are located at the halfway of an exhaust pipe so as to be carried, and a change-over valve at a joint where the exhaust pipe is connected to a catalyst bypass. CONSTITUTION:When a diesel engine 40 is in operation at low load, a catalyst bypass 12 is closed by a change-over valve 14, exhaust gas flows into a catalyzing chamber 20, and SOF contained in exhaust gas is oxidized by oxidizing catalysts 11, so that exhaust gas is thereby purified. And when the diesel engine 40 is in operation at high load exhaust pipe 42 is closed by the change-over valve 14, exhaust gas thereby flows into an collection chamber 25, soot contained in exhaust gas is collected by a particulate filter 13, so that exhaust gas is thereby purified. By this constitution, SOF and black smoke contained in exhaust gas are effectively reduced, and an collection efficiency is thereby enhanced.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent a filter from melting and preheat particulates by heating a heater buried in the filter, and burning the particulates deposited on the filter and also forcing reverse flow of high pressure air from downstream side toward the filter. CONSTITUTION:When particulates are deposited on a filter 1, a switch 11 is turned on so as to electrify a heater 9 buried in a plug 7b for closing the hole 6 of a porous element 1a. The particulates are burned by heating the heater 9. At this time, a valve 17 is opened, while a valve 18 is closed, and exhaust gas is guided to flow from a bypass passage 16 toward a cleaned gas exhaust pipe 5 instead of its flow in a trap casing 2. And at the same time, a control valve 13 is opened, then high pressure air supplied from a pressure source 12 is guided to blow from a back flow air nozzle 14 toward the lower end surface of the filter 1, while performing adiabatic expansion. It is thus possible to cool the porous element 1a by means of reversely flowing high pressure air while improving burning efficiency by preheating high pressure air.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To avoid exhaust gas from directly discharging to the atmosphere even at the time of backwashing by constructing the system in the title by two scavenge chambers connected to the half way of an exhaust pipe and a dust collecting chamber which is connected to the inlet of the scavenge chamber and opened to the atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A backwash type filter system 10 is constructed by containing scavenge chambers 11, 12 which are provided with ceramic honeycombs 28, 29 washed by a backward air flow and connected to the half way of the exhaust gas pipe 63 of an engine 60, and a dust collecting chamber 13 connected to the gas inlets 36, 37 of the scavenge chambers 11, 12. An opening 45 to which a soot scavenge filter 46 is fitted is provided in the dust collecting chamber 13. Soot is separated from the filters 28, 29 by the backward air current and is collected in the dust collecting chamber 13, at this time, compressed air flowing in the dust collecting chamber 13 is discharged through the opening 45 to the atmosphere. Consequently, even at the time of cleaning the filters 28, 29 by the backward air current, exhaust gas is avoided from discharging from the engine 60 directly.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable the washing of a filter without reducing the performance and fuel consumption rate of an engine by determining the washing timing by the engine load in a low speed running and by the exhaust pressure in the higher speed running. CONSTITUTION:In a control unit 14, the set exhaust pressure diaphragm and engine load diaphragm to the engine speed are stored preliminarily. According to a signal from a car speed sensor 40, an electric current is sent to an electromagnetic valve 13 when the engine load from a load sensor 42 exceeds the set engine load diaphragm in a low speed running or when the exhaust pressure from a pressure sensor 43 exceeds the set exhaust pressure diaphragm in a higher speed running than the low speed running. Hence, the air from an air tank 12 is blown into a dust collector 36 through a washing air nozzle 11 in the reversed direction to the flow of the exhaust gas. Thus, a washing timing suited to the running condition of an automobile is obtained, and the clogged filter can be washed with the reversed air flow.

CONSTITUTION:A diesel engine 10 has an intake valve 20 supplying air into a combustion chamber 18 and an exhaust valve 22 discharging an exhaust gas from said chamber 18. In said diesel engine 10, said exhaust valve 22 is backed in a dent formed above said chamber 18 with an interval left to said chamber 18 to form an exhaust gas remaining space 24 between said chamber 18 and said valve 22 for making an exhaust gas remain there. Thus NOX can be effectively reduced to prevent the adhesion of carbon on an intake system and the occurrence of black smoke.
