Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a copolyester which can give a molding excellent in heat resistance and mechanical properties simply by melt polymerization by using 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl having an Na content of a specified small value as the 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl which forms a specified structural unit among the contained four kinds of structural units. CONSTITUTION:A process for producing a copolyester comprising structural units of formulas I, II, III and IV, wherein the 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl which forms the structural units of formula II has an Na content of 0.1-10ppm. Thus, a copolyester which can give a high polymer simply by melt polymerization and can give a molding excellent in heat resistance, mechanical properties and color tone can be obtained. In the above formulas, R1 is a group of formula V, VI, VII or VIII or the like; R2 is a group of formula V, IX, X or XI or the like; and X is H or Cl.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject polyester excellent in the balance between heat resistance and mechanical properties and suitable for a metal-substitute plastics, etc., by copolymerizing plural constituting units in a specified ratio. CONSTITUTION:(A) One or more compounds selected from (i) a compound for a building block of formula V (Ar1 is aromatic), (ii) a compound for a building block of formula VI (Ar2 is aromatic) and (iii) a compound for building block of formula VII (Ar3 is naphthalene) are copolymerized with (B) p-hydroxybenzoic acid for a building block of formula I, (C) hydroquinone, etc., for a building block of formula II (R1 is aromatic), (D) ethylene glycol for a building block of formula III and (E) terephthalic acid, etc., for a building block of formula IV (R2 is aromatic) to obtain the objective polyester containing the components (A) and (D) in an amount of 0.1-10mol% and 5-40mol% respectively based on the components (A)+(B)+(C)+(D) and having 0.5-5.0dl/g logarithmic viscosity.

CONSTITUTION:A resin loudspeaker diaphragm make of a composition as an essential component, the composition comprising (A) 100 pts.wt. of a melt- moldable liquid crystalline polyester having structural units of formulas I-IV (R1 is a group of formula V, VI or VIII etc.; R2 is a group of formula V, VI or VIII, etc.; X is H or Cl), the total amount of the groups of formulas I and II being 77-95mol%, preferably 82-93mol%, and the group of formula III being 23-5mol%, preferably 18-7mol%, based on the total amount of the groups of formulas I, II and III, respectively, and the molar ratio of the groups of formula II/formula III being 75/25-95/5, preferably 78/22-93/7, and (B) 0.5-30 pts.wt., preferably 1-20 pts.wt., of an organic frame-retardant, e.g. an organic bromo compound and/or an organic phosphorus compound.

CONSTITUTION:0.1-30wt.% thermotropic liq. crystalline polyester having an m.p. lower than 250 deg.C and a logarithmic viscosity (in pentafluorophenol, 0.1g/dl concn., at 60 deg.C) of 0.2-2.0dl/g is compounded with 99.9-70wt.% semiarom. polyester of formula IX (wherein R3 is R2; and n is 2, 4, or 6). The resulting compsn. is formed into a film in such a way that the liq. crystalline polyester disperses as particles with a mean diameter of 5mum or lower in the semiarom. polyester, giving title film. The liq. crystalline polyester contains structural units of formulas I, II, and III (wherein R1 is a structural unit of formula IV, V, or VI; and R2 is a structural unit of formula IV, VI, or VII) and, if necessary, a unit of formula VIII, in a molar ratio of (formula VIII + formula II) to formula III of practically 1/1; that of formula II to (formula I + formula III + formula VIII) of 50/100-70/100; and that of formula I to formula VIII of 100/0-50/50.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve drastically gas barrier properties in case of metallizing of a metal such as aluminum, by a method wherein the title film is of a biaxially oriented film of thermotropic crystalline polyester having a mold ratio of a specific structural unit and mean surface roughness of a widthwise direction and a ratio between the Young's moduli of a longitudinal direction and widthwise direction of at least one surface are specified. CONSTITUTION:The title film is of a biaxially oriented film of thermotropic crystalline polyester where a structural unit is constituted of formulas (I) to (IV), a structural unit [(I)+(II)] is 55-95 mol% of [(I)+(II)+(III)], a structural unit (III) is 45-5 mol% of the [(I)+(II)+(III)] and a mol ratio of the structural unit (I)/(III) is 75/25-95/5. Mean surface roughness Ra of a widthwise direction is 3-50 nm and ratio between the Young's moduli of lengthwise direction and widthwise direction is 10:1-1:3 on at least one surface. The structural unit (I) is a structural unit formed of p-hydroxy benzoic acid, the structural unit (II) is a structural unit formed of 4, 4'-dihydroxy biphenyl and the structural unit (III) is a structural unit formed of ethylene glycol. Then the structural unit (IV) is a structural unit of polyester formed of aromatic dicarboxylic acid selected out of terephthalic acid and isophthalic acid.
