    Abstract: Disclosed is a flame-retardant liquid crystal polyester composition, which comprises (A) 100 wt. parts of a liquid crystal polyester comprising structural units of the following formulae (I), (II), (III) and (IV), in which the amount of units (I) and (II) is 77 to 95 mole% based on the sum of units (I), (II) and (III), the amount of units (III) is 23 to 5 mole% based on the sum of units (I), (II) and (III), and the units (I)/units (II) molar ratio is 75/25 - 95/5 and (B) 0.5 to 30 wt. parts of a polymeric flame retardant having an average dispersed particle diameter not larger than 2.5 mu m: &lparstr& O-R1-O &rparstr& (II), &lparstr& OCH2CH2-O &rparstr& (III), and &lparstr& CO-R2-CO &rparstr& (IV) wherein R1 and R2 are specific aromatic residues. This composition gives a molded article having a superior flame retardancy, heat resistance, mechanical properties, and appearance.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain liquid crystal resin pellets, which have such shape that improved feed performance and volumetric characteristics can be provided, at high yield. SOLUTION: In a manufacture of pellets, in which liquid crystal resin in a molten state is delivered, in the form of string, into a trough in which cooling water fed from a nozzle flows, cooled, solidified, and cut in the presence of cooling water, the trough is inclined with respect to the horizontal line at an angle larger than 0 degree and not exceeding 30 degrees and the trough is set so that the height of the trough near the delivery point of the resin is made larger than the height of the trough near a cutter.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve heat resistance, moldability, mechanical properties, and, particularly, impact resistance by compounding a liq. crystalline polyester resin comprising specific structural units with talc and a glass fiber. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. melt-moldable liq. crystalline polyester resin consisting of structural units represented by formulas I, II, III, and IV is compounded with 10-150 pts.wt. talc having a mean particle diameter of 2.5-3.5mum and 10-150 pts.wt. glass fiber having a mean fiber diameter of 3-9mum.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the subject composition having excellent flame retardance, heat-resistance, mechanical properties, etc., by preparing a highly flame retardant-containing composition from a liquid-crystalline polyester and the polymeric flame-retardant and subsequently melt-blending the composition with the liquid-crystalline polyester. CONSTITUTION:A liquid-crystalline polyester containing ethylenedioxy units as an essential component and having a melting viscosity of 10-15000 poises is melt-blended with a polymeric flame-retardant (e.g. brominated polycarbonate or brominated epoxy compound) in a weight ratio of 9/1-4/6, and the prepared composition containing the polymeric flame-retardant in a high concentration is melt-blended with the liquid crystalline polyester in a weight ratio of (0.2-30)/100 to provide the objective composition.
