    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll coater capable of always uniformly applying a liq. agent irrespective of a thickness unevenness whom a thin sheet itself has and to provide a producing method of an optical disk using the roll coater. SOLUTION: In the roll coater applying the liq. agent A on the surface of the thin sheet D by providing a transporting stand 1 transporting the thin sheet D to be coater and a coating roll 2 and moving and passing the transporting stand 1 at an under side of the coating roll, the transporting stand 1 is constituted by arranging a holding plate 5 for holding the thin sheet on an upper surface of a base 4 by interposing a gap G. An elastic material 6 is arranged symmetrically with respect to a line to a segment passing in a passing direction of the transporting stand 1 at a center C of the thin sheet D at a surface direction intermediate part of the gap G, and the periphery part of the holding plate 5 is controlled in adjustable the gap G with a gap controlling means 7 and 8.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required before the start of formation of a coating film and to improve productivity by providing the apparatus with a detecting means for detecting the thickness of a coating member when a line for starting the formation of the coating film on a member to be coated stops relatively in the discharge port position of a coating applicator. SOLUTION: A stage 6 is moved forward to a slit die 40 when loading of a glass substrate A is completed. When the line for starting the formation of the coating film on the glass substrate A, namely the front edge of the glass substrate A arrives at the discharge port position of the slit die, the forward movement of the stage 6 is stopped at the point of this time. The thickness sensor 22 emits measuring light in this state toward the glass substrate A on the stage 6, detects its thickness and supplies a detection signal to a computer 7. The slit die 40 in then lowered by taking the detected thickness of the glass substrate A into consideration to assure a prescribed clearance between the discharge port of the slit die 4 and the glass substrate A. A coating liquid is then uniformly discharged along the line for forming the coating film from the discharge port of the slit die 40.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a long-size, large-diameter FRM solid bar and thick-walled tube. SOLUTION: A bar-shaped or cylindrical preformed material, to be disposed in a metal mold before casting and cast together with a matrix metal to constitute a fiber-reinforced metal matrix composite, is used. An inner layer 1, consisting of a fiber reinforcement in which the axes of fibers are arranged in the axial direction of the preformed material, and a coating layer 2 consisting of a cylindrical braided fabric or woven fabric of a fiber reinforcement, with which the inner layer is to be coated, are alternately laminated into plural layers, and further, the outermost layer is coated with the coating layer. When tension is applied in the axial direction of the preformed material at the time of producing the preformed material, the fibers are unidirectionally oriented and cause no occurrence of disorder. The constraining force caused by the fastening by the coating layer is increased and the occurrence of deformation and separation of the inner layer is prevented at the time of pouring, and also the separation of the inner layer from the coating layer can be prevented. Because the matrix metal is uniformly impregnated, an FRM free from crack and distortion and having high mechanical properties can be produced.

Then, the film thickness of the coating film is made uniform over the entire width range.
