Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the risk of image deterioration attributable to an electric field by increasing the discharge of toner from the surface of a piezoelectric donor member, and also by reducing the AC electric field. SOLUTION: A donor member of a developing device is arranged inside a reproducing unit, and the developing nip is formed by the latent image supporting surface of the photoreceptor. In this case, biased vibrating part 46 is provided with at least a first conductive electrode 62 and a first bias 64 that biases at least the first conductive electrode 62; and the first conductive electrode 62 is formed inside the vibrating part 46 so as to be adjacent to a layer 60, and controls the discharge of a vibrating toner from the donor member. A developing electrode part 48 comprises a pair of second conductive electrodes 66 and a second bias 68 thereto, and is arranged at least between the first conductive electrode 62 and the latent image supporting surface so as to intensify the discharge of toner particles from the donor member, and the powder cloud of toner is formed inside a developing nipple, so that a good quality image can be developed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove the irregularity of an image edge and to reduce image noise. SOLUTION: The electrostatic latent images of three voltage levels are formed on a charge holding surface 10 electrified in an electrification station A in an exposure station B, and developed in different colors in the housings 32 and 34 of a developing station C. The charge holding surface is vibrated by acoustic transformers 39 and 46 provided on the downstream side of the housings 32 and 34. Thus, adhesion between toner and the charge holding surface is weakened and the toner similarly electrified is mutually repulsed. As a result, the toner which is ununiformly distributed and the toner which is not distributed finely at an edge part at the time of developing are corrected to be uniformly distributed in the boundary of the image at the part of the acoustic transformer.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an imaging device and an imaging process which have environmental affinity and further are low in cost. SOLUTION: The imaging device contains a piezoactive photoreceptor structure 10 of a belt form moving along a driving roll 22 and an idle roll 24. The belt 10 is rotated in a clockwise direction by the drive roll 22. The belt is selfbiased by being bent along the drive roll 22 and the idle roll 24. Page image information is projected on the belt 10 by using a raster output scanner(ROS), for example. Thereafter the image is developed at an electrification region 30 and is transferred on a copy sheet 28 by using positive voltage generated by bending the belt 10 along the idle roll 24.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the height of a peak developer bed minimum, and also, to reduce the fluctuation of the developer bed height in a developing nip, in order to improve the quality of a color image. SOLUTION: As for the developing device using the non-interactive developing brush for placing the developer on to an image forming surface with an electrostatic latent image, the device is constituted of (a); a housing for forming a chamber for storing the developer including toner, (b); a donor roll 42 which is partly arranged in the chamber with leaving a fixed distance from the image forming surface, and constituted of a magnetic assembly with plural magnetic poles and a sleeve by which the magnetic assembly is surrounded and which is rotated around the assembly, and for carrying the developer on the sleeve outer surface toward an area facing the image forming surface, (c); a sensor for sensing the magnetic field of the donor roll 42 at a prescribed position on the donor roll 42, and (d); a means (solenoid assembly) 400 for generating a magnetic field in order to reduce the height of the developer bed on the donor roll 42 in the developing nip.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device equipped with a sensor device for measuring the developing capacity and interactive performance of electrostatically charged particles in mixed developer. SOLUTION: The sensor device is provided with (1) a transparent prism 162 which is arranged adjacent to a donor roll 42 and on which toner from the donor roll 42 is attracted, (2) a light source 164 for emitting a light beam through the transparent prism 162, (3) a photodetecting device 166 for detecting the intensity of the internal-reflected light beam and generating a signal showing the quantity of the toner sticking to the transparent prism 162, and (4) means (a power source 196 and a conductive layer 100) for generating a cleaning field bias on the transparent prism 162 with the toner stuck. A signal showing that the toner is removed from the transparent prism 162 (interactive performance) is generated by the photodetecting device 166. The developing device is also provided with a controller for individually adjusting the electrical parameter of the developing device in order to prevent toner-scavenging (removal) in response to the sensor device.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent ununiform vibration energy (which deteriorates image quality) accompanying a still resonator. SOLUTION: This rotatable cylindrical resonator 100 is arranged along a vertical axial line perpendicular to the moving direction of an image forming member. Owing to the cylindrical shape of the resonator 100, frictional force between the contact surface of the resonator 100 and the image forming member is reduced by permitting the rotation of the resonator 100 while keeping the contact with the image forming member, so that the wear (which causes the ununiform vibrational energy) of the resonator 100 and the image forming member is reduced. The resonator 100 is constituted of plural individual resonator elements 92 in order to make frequency response and amplitude by vibration uniform along its length. The resonator element 92 is constituted of (1) a vibration energy generation segment (for example, a piezoelectric transducer 90) generating the vibrational energy and (2) a waveguide segment connected to the piezoelectric transducer 90 and transmitting the vibrational energy from the transducer 90 to the image forming member.
