    Abstract: A seismic ocean bottom cable array is provided for use in subsurface exploration. The array includes receiver stations for measuring seismic signals, and a cable including conductors for data transmission and an externally attached stress member. The array is assembled during deployment by attaching the data transmission cables and receiver stations to the stress member as it is lowered into the water.

    Abstract: A connection system for connecting external devices to specified locations on a marine seismic streamer. Inner collars are clamped to the cable at specified locations along its length. Each inner collar forms a circular race encircling the cable. A cuff attached to an external device is in the form of a C-shaped cylindrical ring with a circular inner surface. A gap in the ring interrupts the inner surface. A throat is formed in the ring by the gap, which extends the full length of the cuff across the ends of the C. The spacing between the ends of the C across the throat defines the width of the gap. The width of the gap is slightly larger than the diameter of the cable so that the cuff can be slipped over the cable through the throat. The width of the gap is smaller than the diameter of the circular race so that, when the cuff is slid into position on the race, the cuff cannot be removed radially from the race. The inner surface of the cuff rides on the race to allow the cable to rotate inside the cuff. The race can include a circumferential groove for retaining a retractable pin extending from the external device to snap the device in place and a raised circumferential shoulder to further restrain the cuff and attached device from sliding along the cable.

    Abstract: A seismic data acquisition system includes a connector housing and a mating electrical circuitry module. A single interface couples electrical circuitry housed in the electrical circuitry module to one or more signal data carriers that are consolidated at a single location in the connector housing. Preferably, the connector housing and electrical circuitry module each have a substantially contaminant-free interior regardless of whether these two parts are mated. An alternate connector housing has two plug casings, each of which are provided with a plug. A complementary alternate electrical circuitry module includes two receptacles complementary to the plugs and an interior space for holding the electrical circuitry. A locking pin disposed within the plug casing selectively engages the electrical circuitry module. A method for establishing communication between electrical circuitry and the carriers and external devices includes providing a single communication interface between the carrier and the electrical circuitry.

    Abstract: A graphical user interface (GUI) and control system for marine seismic data acquisition is described along with a method of real-time quality control of the seismic survey. The control system includes real-time data processing of individual source near-field measured signals and concurrent synthesis of array far-field signatures. The control system determines individual source out-of-specification conditions and computes far-field signatures based on an array configuration excluding the failed source. Source, array, and troubleshooting information are presented to a user in real-time over a GUI monitor to allow informed decision-making regarding continued and/or modified survey operations and operational parameters.

The valve includes a poppet having a first seal and a second seal. A pressure chamber containing a fluid under pressure communicating with the first and second seals to substantially balance the pressure across the seals. An inertial mass is coupled to the poppet. A coil assembly is disposed about the inertial mass. A central guide pin provides guided movement for axial translation.
