Abstract: A multi-stage process for the retorting of solid, hydrocarbon-containing materials is provided. The solid, hydrocarbon-containing feed material is partially retorted in a dilute phase first fluidized retorting stage at first retorting stage conditions with a temperature elevated relative to ambient conditions and achieved by a method of admixing solid heat carrier containing an active cracking catalyst with the solid, hydrocarbon-containing material. The partially retorted product from the first stage is then substantially completely retorted in a second fluidized retorting stage at second stage retorting conditions, with the second stage retorting temperature being greater than the first stage retorting temperature. Vapor products are removed at intermediate stages so as to avoid undesired degradation.

Abstract: A process for the production of trimellitic anhydride with improved color is disclosed. The process comprises heat treating trimellitic anhydride in the presence of oxides of boron or hydrated oxides of boron followed by fractionation. Trimellitic anhydride is used in the manufacture of polyesters and polyamide-imides.

Abstract: Sensors capable of measuring various electrolytic parameters such as voltage, state-of-charge, electrolyte level, internal resistance, and temperature are attached to a monitoring module which gathers and processes signals representative of information concerning the electrolytic condition of electrolytic storage cells and transmits the information to a central computer for further processing. In response to commands issued by the central computer, appropriate maintenance and/or repair operations can be initiated. Alternatively, the system described can be used to automatically perform such maintenance tasks as checking and adding electrolyte levels, reducing the voltage whose output voltage is too high, and leveling the state-of-charge of each cell in an array of electrolytic storage cells. The system can monitor other functions of the electrolytic storage cells, including the evolution of hydrogen gas and the accumulation of sediments in individual electrolytic storage cells.

Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus and a process for uniformly laminating a conductor (18) to a substrate (15). The conductor can be a printed circuit; the substrate can be any dielectric. The apparatus comprises two platens (10, 11) containing cavities (12, 13). One of the cavities (13) contains a mold (14) which is the mirror image of a substrate surface. The other cavity (12) substantially contains the substrate (15). It can have two-dimensional or three-dimensional surfaces to which the printed circuit is laminated. The product results in a superior lamination of the printed circuit across the surface of the substrate.
