Abstract: The invention comprises dyes of the general formula in which R1 denotes a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, an aralkyl radical or an aryl radical, R2 denotes a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R3, R4, R5 and R6 denote hydrogen atoms or substituents which do not impart water solubility, Y denotes the radical of a coupling component free from sulphonic groups and X denotes the equivalent of an anion and a process for the preparation of basic azo dyes, wherein an aminophenyl-hydrazone of the general formula or a salt thereof having the general formula in which R1-R6 and X have the meanings given above is diazotized, coupled with a compound capable of coupling and, if desired, the product is treated with alkylating or aralkylating agents. X may be a Cl-, Br1HSO4-, H2PO4-, ZnCl3-, ZnBr3-, tosylate or CH3OSO3- ion R3-R6 may be alkyl, alkoxy or acyclamino radicals or halogen atoms. Representative of the coupling components specified are 1,3-dihydroxybenzene, 2-hydroxynaphthalene, 2-hydroxy - 8 - acetylaminonaphthalene, aminobenzenes substituted with such groups as 2-hydroxyethyl, cyanoethyl and hydroxyphenyl groups, 3-methyl, 1-phenyl-3-carbethoxy- and 1 - (2 - methylphenyl) - 3 - methylpyrazolones, hydroxyquinolines, imidazoles, 1,1,3 - trimethyl- and 2-methyl indolines and 2-phenylindole. Aminophenylhydrazones and their salts for use as starting materials are obtained by diazotizing aminonitro- or amino-acylaminobenzenes and coupling with methylene compounds of the general formula in which R1, R3 and R4 have the meanings given above, optionally treating the products with alkylating or aralkylating agents and converting the resulting nitro or acylamino compounds to the corresponding amino compounds by reduction or hydrolysis. Specified aminonitro- and aminoacylamino-benzenes include 1-amino-4-nitro- and 1 - amino - 2 - methoxy - 4 - nitro - benzenes, 1 - amino - 4 - formylamino-, -3- and -4-acetylamino-, -4-oxalylamino- and -2,5-dimethoxy -4- acetylaminobenzenes. Examples are furnished. The dyes are especially suitable for dyeing synthetic fibres, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, polyhexahydroterephthalyl terephthalate, polyacrylonitrile and acrylonitrile-vinyl acetate copolymers.

Abstract: 3-N-acetoxyethylanilino-propine-1 is prepared by reacting beta-hydroxyethylaniline with propargyl chloride to give 3-betahydroxyethylanilino-propine-1 and reacting this with acetyl chloride. 3-N-betahydroxyethylanilinobutine-1 is obtained from N-beta-hydroxyethylaniline and 3-chloro-butine-1.ALSO:The invention comprises p-aminoazo dyes of formula wherein A is an aromatic or heterocyclic diazo radical which contains at least one alkyl, alkoxy, nitro, sulphonamide, alkylsulphonyl, acylamino, cyano or trifluoromethyl group or halogen atom but no carboxylic or sulphonic acid groups, B is the radical of an azo component free from carboxylic or sulphonic acid group, R1 is a radical which between the amino and acetylene groups contains 1-4 aliphatic carbon atoms some of which may be replaced by hereto atoms, which radical may also be further substituted and R2 and R3 are hydrogen or aliphatic radicals. The dyes are prepared by normal diazotization and coupling procedures using suitable components. The dyes may be used to colour fibres and other materials of acetyl-cellulose, polyamides, polyurethanes, polycarbonates and polyacryonitriles in orange, red and violet shades. In an example 4-nitroaniline is diazotized and coupled with 3-N-acetoxyethylanilino-propine-1 (see Group IV(b)). Further examples are specified.

Abstract: The invention comprises dyes, free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups, of formula where Ar is a phenyl radical free from a cyano group o to the azo group and free from a group attached by way of sulphur o to the azo group and substituted by at least one halogen atom and/or alkoxy, nitro, acylamino, trifluoromethyl, cyano, alkylsulphonyl and/or, possibly substituted, sulphonamide group, X is H or a substituent on the benzene nucleus which does not interfere with the initial formation of the dye, alk1 is a propylene radical alk2 is a divalent alkylene residue of 2-4 carbon atoms and R is an alkyl group of 1-5 carbon atoms. The dyes are made by diazotising an appropriate aniline derivative and coupling with the required di-N-substituted aniline. Indicated values for X are halogen, alkoxy, alkyl, acylamino and trifluoromethyl. Specified coupling components are N-g -cyanopropyl-N-b -acetoxyethyl- and acetoxypropyl-benzenes, their 3-methyl and -chloro-derivatives and the corresponding propionyl-, butyryl- and isobutyryl-oxy-derivatives. The dyes colour textile materials derived from cellulose ethers and esters, including triacetyl cellulose, linear polyamides, e.g. polycaprolactam and polyhexamethylene diamine adipate, linear polyesters, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, and linear polymers of acrylonitrile. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in colouring processes red and yellow shades being obtained. Specification 819,664 is referred to.
