Abstract: A method for the continuous isolation of citronellal or citronellol from crude mixtures involves rectification in a partition-wall column with upper and lower combining column sections, a side feed inlet and a side take-off for the pure product. A rectification method for the continuous isolation of citronellal (I) or citronellol (II) from a crude mixture containing at least one of these compounds, involves (a) feeding the mixture into the side of a feeder column (3, 4) with a concentrating section (3) above the feed inlet (9) and a stripper section (4) below (9), (b) providing an upper combining column (2) communicating with the top of section (3) and fitted with a condenser (12) at the top of (2), plus another combining column (7) with a heater (14) at the bottom of the stripper (4), (c) providing a take-off column (5, 6) which communicates with columns (2) and (7), and (d) taking off (I) or (II) as a side product from column (5, 6), plus low-boilers from the top of column (2) and high-boilers from the bottom of column (7).
