Abstract: The present invention relates to an emulsifying system comprising an alkaline earth metal lanolate or other metal lanolate and a sterol, the said lanolate being obtained by the direct action of lanolin acid and an alkaline earth metal acetate or other metal acetate, in an anhydrous medium. Water-in-oil emulsions containing this emulsifying system are useful as cosmetic and pharmaceutical emulsions.
