Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display element having improved light emitting efficiency and long termed reliability.
SOLUTION: The display element 11 is formed by interposing an organic layer 14 at least containing a light emitting layer 14c between a negative electrode 15 and a positive electrode 13, and at least one layer out of the layers composing the organic layer 14 uses an organic material shown in formula (1) in a form of single layer or mixed layer. In the formula (1), A is naphthyl group, anthryl group, phenanthryl group, biphenylyl group or terphenylyl group, and R is alkyl group with carbon atomic numbers 1-6, or cycloalkyl group with carbon atomic number 5 or 6.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device, in which deterioration of the luminous element due to moisture is restrained and which has high long-term reliability. SOLUTION: The display device comprises a substrate 1, an organic electroluminescent element (luminous element) 2, and a sealing cap 11 which is arranged opposite to the substrate 11 with the luminous element 2 interposed in-between, and seals the luminous element 2 in the hollow part 'a' between the substrate 1 and the sealing cap 11. A getter layer 21 is provided in a state of covering the exposed part on the outer circumference of the sealing part surface of the substrate 1 and the sealing cap 11. This getter layer 21 is constituted, using a material that traps at least either moisture or oxygen, and a sealing layer 22 is provided, covering this getter layer 21.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element in which light can be emitted with low voltage and high luminance, and the deterioration of an organic layer can be suppressed by treating the surface of an electrode with a prescribed coupling agent, and providing the organic layer on this surface. SOLUTION: An ITO transparent electrode (anode) 5 is formed on a glass substrate 6, and an EL element forming cell masked by Si evaporation excluding a light emitting area of 2×2mm (arrangement) is formed. The surface of the substrate 6 (the ITO electrode surface exposed between SiO2 ) is treated with a titanate coupling agent containing a hydrophobic group P in the terminal. TPD is evaporated on the surface to form a held transport layer 4. An organic light emitting material (Al-quinoline complex) is evaporated thereon by use of a mask to form a light emitting layer 3 used also as an electron transport layer 2, and Al is then formed as cathode electrode 1, whereby an organic EL element 9 is formed.

This complex is obtained by reaction between a zinc salt of the formula, ZnX2 ' (X is an anion) and a compound of the formula, L OH, L OH or L OH in an alcohol.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make it possible to store the recording information quantity of about 4 times the present recording information quantity to an optical recording medium of the same size without subjecting the device side to a drastic change, such as shortening of the wavelength of reproducing light, increasing of the numerical aperture NA of a focusing lens and changing of a signal demodulation system. CONSTITUTION:At least a saturable absorbent dyestuff-contg. layer 2 formed by a vacuum thin film forming method and a reflection layer 4 are formed on a light transmissive substrate 1 formed with the recording patterns corresponding to information signals as rugged 1a, 1b shapes. Further, a short-wavelength shift layer 3 which shifts the minimal point of the light reflection spectra of the optical recording medium to a short wavelength side is disposed between the saturable absorbent dyestuff-contg. layer 2 and the reflection layer 4. As a result, the recording patterns inscribed on the substrate 1 are correctly traced on the saturable absorbent dyestuff-contg. layer 2 and the reflection layer 4 and the reflectivity is confined within an adequate rate. Then, the optical recording medium exhibits excellent ultra-definition and good reproduced signals are obtd. from the fine recording patterns formed with micropits at a period shorter than the diffraction threshold lambda/2NA of a reproducing optical system.

CONSTITUTION:This method for producing carbon tubes is to fill a metal or its compound as a simple substance in the interior of an electrode graphite (3a) or mix the metal or its compound with a readily graphitizable carbon, fill the resultant mixture therein, bake the metal or its compound or the mixture, subsequently use the prepared electrode as a positive pole 3, use high-purity graphite as a negative pole 2, carry out the arc discharge in a vacuum chamber and separate the objective carbon tubes from a deposit formed on the negative pole 2. The metal is a transition metal such as vanadium, lanthanum, hafnium or gadolinium or a compound thereof. Thereby, rodlike or needlelike carbon tubes having 1-5mum outside diameter and >=20mum length or carbon nanotubes having 1-10nm outside diameter are obtained.
