Abstract: The invention is a process for preparing tetraalkyl-substituted biphenol which comprises reacting a 2,4- or 2,6-dialkyl substituted phenol in which the alkyl groups contain 1 to 6 carbon atoms with a peroxidase enzyme in the presence of a peroxide in an aqueous medium to yield a tetraalkyl-substituted biphenol by oxidative coupling of the 2,4- or 2,6-dialkyl substituted phenol, or yielding a tetra-alkyl substituted quinone, and reducing the quinone to obtain a tetraalkyl-substituted biphenol. The invention further includes a process for preparing a tetraaryl-substituted biphenol in which the aryl groups contain 6 to 10 carbon atoms which comprises racting a 2,4 or 2,6 diarylphenol with a peroxidase enzyme to yield a tetraaryl-substituted biphenol. A process for reducing a tetraalkyl-substituted quinone to corresponding tetraalkyl-substituted biphenol which comprises reducing the quinone with a phenol in an aqueous medium at a temperature of about 60° to 120° C. is also included.

Abstract: A process is described for preparing 3-pentenenitrile, characterized by the following process steps: (a) reacting 1,3-butadiene with hydrogen cyanide over at least one catalyst to obtain a stream 1 which comprises 3-pentenenitrile, 2-methyl-3-butenenitrile, the at least one catalyst and 1,3-butadiene, (b) distilling stream 1 in a column to obtain a high-1,3-butadiene stream 2 as the top product and a low-1,3-butadiene stream 3 as the bottom product which comprises 3-pentenenitrile, the at least one catalyst and 2-methyl-3-butenenitrile, (c) distilling stream 3 in a column to obtain a stream 4 as the top product which comprises 1,3-butadiene, a stream 5 which comprises 3-pentenenitrile and 2-methyl-3-butenenitrile at a side draw of the column, and a stream 6 as the bottom product which comprises the at least one catalyst, (d) distilling stream 5 to obtain a stream 7 as the top product which comprises 2-methyl-3-butenenitrile, and a stream 8 as the bottom product which comprises 3-pentenenitrile.

Abstract: Se describe un procedimiento para la produccion de 3-pentenonitrilo, caracteriado porque los siguientes pasos del, procedimiento: (a) isomerizacion de una corriente de eductos que contiene 2-metil-3-butenonitrilo, por lo menos un catalizador de isomerizacion, disuelto o disperso, de manera de obtener una corriente 1, que contiene por lo menos un catalizador de isomerizacion, 2-metil-3-butenonitrilo, 3-pentenonitrilo y (Z)-2-metil-2-butenonitrilo; (b) destilacion de la corriente 1 con lo cual se obtiene una corriente 2 como producto de cabeza, que contiene 2-metil-3-butenonitrilo, 3-pentenonitrilo y (Z)-2-metil-2-butenonitrilo, y una corriente 3 como producto de descarga, que contiene por lo menos un catalizador de isomerizacion; (c) destilacion de la corriente 2, con lo cual se obtiene una corriente 4 como producto de cabeza que con respecto a la corriente 2 se ha enriquecido en (Z)-2-metil-2-butenonitrilo, referido a la suma de todos los pentenonitrilos en la corriente 2, y una corriente 5 como producto de descarga que con respecto a la corriente 2 se ha enriquecido en 3-pentenonitrilo y 2-metil-3-butenonitrilo, referido a la suma de todos los pentenonitrilos en la corriente 2; (d) destilacion de la corriente 5, con lo cual se obtiene una corriente 6 como producto de descarga que contiene 3-pentenonitrilo, y una corriente 7 como producto de cabeza que contiene 2-metil-3-butenonitrilo.
