    Abstract: Carboxamides Ia, Ib, Ic and Id (X is O or S; R is H, halogen, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted benzyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, haloalkoxy, haloalkylthio, optionally substituted phenyl, optionally substituted phenoxy or phenylthio, an optionally substituted 5- or 6-membered heterocycle having up to 2 hetero atoms, cycloalkylalkyl, optionally substituted alkenyl which can be epoxidised, optionally substituted alkynyl, optionally substituted cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl; R is cycloalkylalkyl, optionally substituted alkenyl which can be epoxidised, optionally substituted cycloalkenyl; R is CHO, 4,5-dihydrooxazol-2-yl, COYR , CONR R ; Y is O or S; R is H, optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, optionally substituted alkenyl, optionally substituted cycloalkenyl, optionally substituted alkynyl, optionally substituted phenyl, a 5- or 6-membered heterocycle having up to 3 hetero atoms, benzotriazole, N-phthalimido, tetrahydrophthalimido, succinimido, maleimido, 2,2-di-methyl- 1,3-dioxolan-4-ylmethyl, 1,3-dioxolan-2-on-4-ylmethyl, in the case where Y = O: an equivalent of a cation from the group of the alkali metals or alkaline earth metals, Mn, Cu, Fe, ammonium and substituted ammonium, a radical -N = CR R or -W-Z; R and R are H, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted haloalkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, furanyl, optionally substituted phenyl; R + R are a 4- to 7-membered methylene chain; W is an alkylene chain, ethoxyethylene chain, butenylene or butynylene chain; Z is a moiety bonded to W in the omega -position which represents the same moiety which is linked to W in the alpha -position of W; R is H, alkyl, cycloalkyl; R is H; alkyl; -C(O-alkyl)=N-H or -C(O-alkyl)=N-alkyl; R + R are a 4- to 5-membered methylene chain; R is H, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted cycloalkyl; R is H, OH, alkoxy, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted cycloalkyl, optionally substituted alkenyl, optionally substituted alkynyl, di-(C1-C4)-alkylamino, an optionally substituted 5- to 6-membered heterocycle having up to 2 hetero atoms, optionally substituted phenyl, optionally substituted naphthyl; R3 + R4 are a 4- to 7-membered methylene chain which can be interrupted by O, S or N-CH3, or are -(CH2)3-CO-> and their environmentally compatible salts are suitable as herbicides.
