    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly detect the presence/absence of a remaining liquid by applying to part of a storage part where ink with a dispersed coloring agent is stored a low surface energy process agent containing alkylpolysiloxane. SOLUTION: In the ink tank having a liquid storage chamber for forming a sealed space, when a recording head consumes ink of an absorbing body 320, ink is supplied from the liquid storage chamber 360 to the absorbing body 320 of a negative pressure-generating member storage chamber 340 through a communication opening 400 of a diaphragm 380. A prism 180 to be part of an ink remainder detect mechanism set to the liquid storage chamber 360 of the ink tank informs a user of the consumption of the ink in the liquid storage chamber 360. A process for enhancing a water repellency is carried out to prevent a coloring agent from adhering to the prism 180. A process agent used in a low surface energy process is alkylpolysiloxane. The presence/absence of the remaining liquid can be correctly detected.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform ink-jet recording on a recording object such as common paper in high image density and quality without causing bleeding trouble by flying droplets of an ink containing a colorant aggregating by the application of electric field and applying an electric field to the recorded image. SOLUTION: Droplets of an ink containing a colorant aggregating by the application of electric field are ejected e.g. by the application of thermal energy to record an image on a recording object and an electric field is applied e.g. from the back of the recording object. The ink is e.g. an ink containing a disperse dye or pigment having particle diameter of 0.01-10μm, aggregating by the application of electric field and dispersed in a liquid medium having high electric resistance such as aliphatic hydrocarbon, aromatic hydrocarbon, alcohol, diethylene glycol or glycerol in an amount of 1-20wt.% based on the total weight of the ink.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid jet head superior in reliability by preventing an air pocket from being created in a liquid jet head. SOLUTION: A heater board 1 having a heater 1a for making a bubble in ink, a top plate 2 having a groove for forming a liquid passage 2a or a common liquid chamber 2b at the lower face and an orifice plate 10 having an ejection nozzle for ejecting ink are bonded with a sealing agent 3 therebetween to form the liquid jet head. A hydrophilic treatment-applied face 6 is formed on the inner face of the liquid jet head. As a result, a face energy of each of the top plate 2 made of a material having a comparatively low face energy, the orifice plate 10 and, particularly, a part of the sealing agent 3 having a water- repellency is substantially equal to that of the other part so that it is possible to suppress the occurrence of an air pocket at a portion having a low face energy.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pigment ink capable of forming an image excellent in water resistance, light resistance, and character quality and capable of being stably delivered from a recording head irrespectively of the printing environment by adding self-dispersible carbon black particles having at least one type of hydrophilic groups on the surface and calcium to an aqueous medium. SOLUTION: It is desirable that the hydrophilic groups are bonded to the surfaces of carbon black particles through atomic groups. The atomic group is exemplified by a 1 or 2C linear or branched alkylene, a (substituted) phenylene or a (substituted) naphthylene. The hydrophilic group is exemplified by-COOM,- SO3M,-PO3HM,-SO2NH2, -SO2NHCOR,-NH3+, formula I or formula II. In the formulae, Ms are each independently H, an alkali metal, ammonium or the like; R is a 1-12C alkyl, a (substituted) phenyl or a (substituted) naphthyl. It is desirable that the calcium exists in the form of a calcium ion.
