Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate employing distrib uted frequency planning and reuse factor optimization based upon forward lin k and/or reverse link interference management techniques. An optimal reuse f actor for a base station can be determined based upon a metric that evaluate s levels of service associated with neighboring base stations. Moreover, a s ubset of available resource sets can be selected for use by the base station ; thus, a base station specific collection of resource sets can be formed th rough such selection. Further, mappings of each resource set to a set of phy sical resources can be disseminated in a network or portion thereof. Accordi ng to another example, frequency hopping can be constrained to use of resour ces within a resource set (rather than across more than one resource set) as provided in a base station specific hopping pattern.

Abstract: Techniques for performing carrier switching in a multi-carrier access network are described. A terminal may be assigned to a carrier among multiple carriers having different transmit power levels, e.g., by the access network during system access or handoff. The terminal may receive a switch threshold from the access network. The terminal may periodically measure the received signal strength of the assigned carrier and may compare the received signal strength against the switch threshold. The terminal may refrain from switching to a stronger carrier if the received signal strength exceeds the switch threshold and may switch to the stronger carrier if the received signal strength is below the switch threshold. This carrier switching scheme may prevent the terminal from switching to the strongest carrier when the assigned carrier can provide satisfactory performance. The access network may also switch the terminal to another carrier by sending a carrier switch message.

Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate defining control channels and resource identifiers related thereto as well as constraints for utilizing the control channels. A minimum number of required control report s for a set of resource indices can be specified as a constraint to provide a mobile device flexibility with respect to transmitting the control reports over available resource indices. Additionally, or alternatively, a maximum number of control reports can be specified for transmitted over the resource indices to prevent control channel overload. Moreover, a constraint can spe cify an exact number of control channels to utilize in transmitting control reports. Other constraints are possible as well, such as limiting a control report payload or change in payload, limiting out-of-band control reports ba sed on in-band reports transmitted, etc.

Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate assigning indices to link assignment blocks (LABs) communicated via a downlink. Indices in a first subset are allocated to shared LABs, which are decoded by a plurality of access terminals. Indices in a second subset are assigned to unshared LAB s, which are each intended for a particular recipient access terminal. Assig nment of an index for each unshared LAB can be based upon a hash of an ident ifier corresponding to an intended recipient access terminal and/or access t erminal capabilities. Moreover, an access terminal can decode LABs based upo n corresponding indices. LABs with indices in a first range can be identifie d as shared LABs and decoded. Further, the access terminal can determine a s econd range of indices corresponding to unshared LABs to decode; the second range of indices includes fewer than all indices corresponding to unshared L ABs in a frame sent by a base station.

Abstract: Techniques for transmitting pilot and traffic data are described. In one aspect, a terminal may scramble its pilot with a scrambling sequence generated based on a set of static and dynamic parameters. The static parameter(s) have fixed value for an entire communication session for the terminal. The dynamic parameter(s) have variable value during the communication session. The terminal may generate a scrambling sequence by hashing the set of parameters to obtain a seed and initializing a PN generator with the seed. The terminal may then generate the pilot based on the scrambling sequence. In another aspect, the terminal may use different scrambling sequences for pilot and traffic data. A first scrambling sequence may be generated based on a first set of parameters and used to generate the pilot. A second scrambling sequence may be generated based on a second set of parameters and used to scramble traffic data.

Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate communicating rev erse link control information over OFDMA control channel (s) and CDMA contro l channel (s). Dedicated OFDMA control channel resources can be assigned to mobile device (s). Control information related to one or more logical contro l channels can be generated by a mobile device (204). Further, a physical co ntrol channel type (e.g., OFDMA control channel or a CDMA control channel) c an be selected (214) for sending the control information via the reverse lin k. For example, control information associated with periodic, logical contro l channels can be multiplexed (216) and sent over the OFDMA control channel (e.g., utilizing the dedicated OFDMA control channel resources) while contro l information related to non-periodic, logical control channels can be trans mitted over the CDMA control channel.

Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate controlling rever se link power on a traffic channel. Assignments for reverse link communicati on can be yielded. Interference from mobile devices in neighboring sectors c an be monitored and other sector interference (OSI) indications can be broad casted. The OSI indications can be obtained by mobile devices to alter delta values employed for delta-based power control. Further, a maximum allowable amount of reduction of a delta value can be allocated per QoS class. Moreov er, mobile devices can provide in-band and out-of-band feedback, which can b e leveraged for future assignments.

Abstract: A method for allocating resources in a wireless communications environment comprises receiving a mapping between a first hop-port and frequency range, and determining whether to map a second access terminal to a second hop-port that is mapped to at least the same frequency range during a substantially similar instance in time, the determination made as a function of characteristics relating to a first access terminal associated with the first hop-port. The method can further include determining that the first access terminal is a candidate for employing Space-Division Multiple Access (SDMA), and mapping the second-hop port and associating the second access terminal with the second hop-port when the second access terminal is also a candidate for employing SDMA.

Abstract: Beacon symbols are sent periodically from the base stations in an OFDM sy stem. The entire power of the base station, or a large portion of it is conc entrated in these symbols, thus they are very easily recognized by the mobil e stations. The frequencies upon which these symbols are transmitted and the time at which they are transmitted communicates information such as the bas e station/sector identity and the preferred carrier of the given base statio n/sector to the mobile station. In order to avoid collision between the beac on symbols of different base stations and sectors, the beacon symbols from d ifferent base stations/sectors are transmitted at different symbols times an d on different subcarriers.
