    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a medium which keeps a lubricating effect under various use conditions, which has a small coefft. of friction, excellent travelling property, wear resistance and durability by holding a lubricant comprising a diester monocarboxylic acid compd. in a magnetic layer on a nonmagnetic supporting body. SOLUTION: Relating to a magnetic record medium having a carbon film on a magnetic layer, a lubricant is applied on the carbon film by coating. When a diester monocarboxylic acid compd. is applied as a lubricant on the carbon film, the carboxylic acid or ester of the polar groups of the lubricant is adsorbed on the carbon film while aggregation force between long-chain hydrocarbon groups in the hydrophobic part form a lubricant. Therefore, the lubricant is firmly held on the carbon film and is made extremely thin, and an enough lubricating effect can be kept for a long time. The diester monocarboxylic acid compd. is preferably a compd. expressed by the chemical formula (wherein R , R are hydrophobic functional groups).

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exhibit lubricating effect excellent in running performance, wear resistance and durability under various use conditions by forming a carbon film on a magnetic layer and holding a triester having 3 long chain hydrocarbon groups as a lubricant. SOLUTION: The triester having 3 long chain hydrocarbon groups is one of hidrocarbons expressed by formula I (each of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6 and R7 is a hydrophobic group) and formula II (each of l, m, n, p, r and s is 0-28 and q is 0-10). When the triester having 3 long chain hydrocarbon groups is applied on the carbon film as the lubricant, a lubricating film is formed by the adsorption of an ester of a polar group part of the lubricant molecule on the carbon film and the cohesive power between the long chain hydrocarbon groups of the hydrophobic group part. Friction coefficient is lowered and shuttle durability and still durability are improved by the strong adsorption of the ester on the surface of the carbon film.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating type magnetic recording medium having high electromagnetic conversion characteristics and travelling durability which is suitable for high-density recording. SOLUTION: A magnetic layer is formed by applying a magnetic coating material essentially comprising a ferromagnetic powder and a binder on a nonmagnetic supporting body. The magnetic layer contains a diketone compd. having ester bonds expressed by formula and contains at least one of sulfonate groups, sulfonates, tertiary amino groups and quaternary ammonium salt. In the formula, at least one of R to R has ester bonds and others are selected from hydrogen, halogens, and alkyl groups, aryl groups and heteroaromatic groups with substituents of hydrogen or halogens.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the generation of burned matter at a magnetic head and spacing loss and to prevent the increase of an error rate by holding a compd. having a pyridine skeleton and having >=2 coordination seats in a burning preventive agent. SOLUTION: Ligand has complex formability with metal atoms therefore, if the ligand is held in the magnetic recording medium, complex forming reaction arises with the metal oxide formed on the magnetic head surface to each other and the metal oxide turns to a complex which is easily desorbable. The ligand is, however, coordinated and adsorbed on the magnetic powder contained in the magnetic layer as well, by which the complex forming reaction with the metal oxide is hindered and the effect of removing the metal oxide of the ligand is impaired. If, thereupon, a titanate coupling agent and carboxylic acid are made to coexist therein, these compds. are adsorbed on the surfaces of the magnetic powder and the coordination and adsorption of the ligand to the magnetic powder are hindered and consequently, the ligand contributes to the complex formation with the metal oxide of the magnetic head. The accumulation of the burned matter on the magnetic head does not arise any more.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deposition of a burnt matter on a magnetic head even with longer sliding time and higher scanning speed, to suppress the spacing loss and to prevent increase in the error rate by incorporating a preventing agent against burning which contains an aromatic nitroso compd. into a magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: This medium is produced by forming a magnetic layer on a nonmagnetic base body and the medium contains a preventing agent against burning which contains an aromatic nitro compd. selected from compds. expressed by the formula I, formula II and formula III. In the formulae, R to R are alkyl groups, aryl groups or heteroaromatic groups with substituents of hydrogen atoms, halogen atoms, hydroxyl groups, nitro groups, carboxyl groups, etc. This aromatic nitroso compd. has an ability to form a complex with metal atoms so that the complexing reaction is caused between the metal oxide on the magnetic head surface and the polyacid compd. The obtd. complex easily drops from the magnetic head surface. Thereby, metal oxides can be removed from a magnetic head, which prevents accumulation or deposition of a burnt matter on a magnetic head.
