Abstract: An optical recording medium having an information layer with a reflective film on which an information recording portion is formed by physical change of shape at least in one direction of 'thickness and track width, said reflective film having such an structure that additional recording can be performed by thermal recording, and that the reflectance of said reflective film changes in the range of 0.5Ä%Ü where R0 is reflectance of non-recording state and R1 is reflectance of recording state for reproducing beam. Such optical recording medium can be manufactured with low cost and additional recording can be done.

Abstract: An information transmitting method comprising the steps of: transmitting identification information of a recording medium from at least one terminal section for reproducing a duplicate recording medium duplicated from the recording medium having recorded thereon first digital data related to an encrypted work and second digital data including at least identification information proper to the medium, to a host section via a communication channel; authenticating the transmitted identification information by the host section; requesting the terminal section for accounting; and transmitting data related to a key for decrypting the encryption of the first digital data to the terminal section when the accounting is carried out.

Abstract: A rewritable optical information recording medium including a recording layer composed of an organic dye film is provided, in which recording and erasing information can be performed reversibly by laser light irradiation. A rewritable optical information recording medium including at least one organic dye film which is substantially made of only at least one kind of organic dye compounds as a recording film is provided. The recording and erasure of information are performed by a reversible physical change of the organic dye film substance caused by laser light irradiation. Specifically, data recording is performed by a physical change locally caused by the irradiation of recording laser light, data reproduction is performed by detecting change in intensity of returned light of reproducing laser light having less power than the recording laser light, and data erasure is performed by applying at least once continuous light or pulse light having laser power more than the reproducing laser light and less than the recording laser light. The physical change is a change in shape.

Abstract: An optical recording medium is capable of linear recording in a photon mode. An organic material changed in molecular orientation on light illumination to exhibit birefringence is used as a recording material. For example, a recording layer having, as a recording material, an organic material changed in molecular orientation caused by trans-cis rearrangement, is changed in birefringence with changes in the molecular orientation of the organic material. The recording system which utilizes the changes in the molecular orientation of the organic material has linear characteristics and gives outputs different depending on e.g., the degree or the angle of orientation, thus enabling multi-valued recording.

Abstract: Twenty-bit audio data is separated into first data of high-order 16 bits and second data of low-order 4 bits. EFM-modulated data is created from the first data. A laser beam is turned on/off according to the logical level of channel data that is created by NRZI-modulating a serial data string. Consequently, the first data is recorded in the same way as in a compact disk. According to the second data, each pit is controlled to have displacement in a horizontal direction with respect to the track center, allowing a displaced pit to be formed. When data is thus recorded depending on the pit displacement, the high frequency component of a tracking error signal is changed during reproduction. Thus the second data can be extracted from the tracking error signal.
