An information transmitting method comprising the steps of: transmitting identification information of a recording medium from at least one terminal section for reproducing a duplicate recording medium duplicated from the recording medium having recorded thereon first digital data related to an encrypted work and second digital data including at least identification information proper to the medium, to a host section via a communication channel; authenticating the transmitted identification information by the host section; requesting the terminal section for accounting; and transmitting data related to a key for decrypting the encryption of the first digital data to the terminal section when the accounting is carried out.

A portable disc player (1) has a casing (2). In the casing (2), there are enclosed: disc rotation driving means (23) for rotating an optical disc; an optical head (20) which is arranged so as to be movable in the radial direction of the optical disc; a signal processing section for executing a predetermined signal process to a signal which has been read out by the optical head; and control means (22) for controlling the operations of the rotation driving means (23), the optical head (20), and the signal processing section on the basis of an input from an X-Y device (11) and trigger buttons (12a, 12b). A display unit (14) comprising an outer cover (15) on which an LCD display (14) is arranged is rotatably attached to the casing (2).

The reproducing device casts a light beam emitted from a single light source onto the first recording layer or the second recording layer via a single objective lens, discriminates which of the first recording layer and the second recording layer the light beam emitted from the light source is cast on, on the basis of the result of detection of a reflected beam from the first recording layer or the second recording layer, moves the objective lens in a direction parallel to the optical axis ofthe objective lens on the basis of the result of discrimination, and condenses the light beam on the first recording layer or the second recording layer so as to carry out reproduction of information.

An optical disk comprises a substrate, on one side of which a first recording layer and a second recording layer of different reflectivities are formed one on another, and a protective coating is provided on the first or second recording layer, which is farther from the substrate. For reproduction, a light beam is emitted from a single light source to the first or second recording layer through a single object lens. Based on whether the light beam is reflected from the first or second recording layer, the object lens is moved along its optical axis and focused on the recording layer to reproduce information.

A data recorded medium having a data recorded area where digital data including literary work data on literary works such as a music composition and an image is recorded, wherein identification information for identifying the recorded medium is recorded in an identification information recorded area and judging information representing presence/absence of identification information is recorded in a read-in area. The location of the digital data recorded on a recorded medium is managed by identification information for identifying the recorded medium and hence a wide variety of use such as copyings of literary work data is possible.
