Abstract:
A pin-box type threaded joint for steel tubes having a contact surface (30) including a threaded portion and a nonthreaded metal-to-metal contact portion has improved leak resistance, galling resistance, and corrosion resistance particularly to crevice corrosion. The contact surface of at least one of the pin and the box is coated with a first plating layer (34) made of a Cu—Zn alloy or a Cu—Zn-M1 alloy (wherein M1 is at least one element selected from Sn, Bi, and In). Optionally, an undercoat (32) of one or both of a Ni plating layer (32a) and a Cu plating layer (32b) and an overcoat of a Sn-M2 alloy plating layer (36) (wherein M2 is one or more elements selected from Bi, In, Ni, Zn, and Cu) may be formed below and above the first layer, respectively. A solid lubricating coating (38a) and a viscous liquid or semisolid lubricating coating (38b) may also be formed atop the plating layer as a lubricating coating (38).
Abstract:
A solid lubricant and composition useful for lubricating the flanges of locomotive wheels, railcar wheels, rail track and in applications where it is desirable to reduce friction when metal contacts metal. The solid lubricant having from about twenty-five percent to about seventy percent by volume of a polymeric carrier, about five to seventy-five percent by volume of organic and inorganic extreme pressure additives, about zero to twenty percent by volume synthetic extreme pressure anti-wear liquid oil, and about zero to one percent by volume optical brightener.
Abstract:
A metal material subjected to a treatment for seizure prevention is provided. The metal material includes a metal base material and a film formed thereon, the film being composed of a carbodiimide group-containing resin obtained from an aromatic polyisocyanate or of a mixture of said carbodiimide group-containing resin and a lubricant. A method for producing a metal material subjected to a treatment for seizure prevention is also provided. The method includes coating, on a metal base material, a carbodiimide group-containing resin obtained from an aromatic polyisocyanate or a mixture of said carbodiimide group-containing resin and a lubricant, and then subjecting the coated metal base material to a heat treatment at a temperature of 120° C. or higher.
Abstract:
Die release lubricant is made from powder solid lubricant, adhesion enhancer made of organic or inorganic compound and volatile solvent. Before melted metal is injected into a die for casting, the die release lubricant is sprayed to an inside surface of the die. The die release lubricant is in a liquid state and is uniformly applied to the inside surface of the die. As a result, application efficiency of the die release lubricant is improved while an amount of thermal decomposition gas generated during casting is reduced.
Abstract:
A resin composition which exhibits good sealability while keeping creep deformation to a minimum when brought into sliding contact with a mating member at a high contact pressure of over 10 MPa, and which will not damage a mating member made from an aluminum alloy while sliding in contact with lubricating oil. The resin composition is a pressure-resistant, sliding tetrafluoroethylene resin composition containing 100 parts by volume of a modified tetrafluoroethylene resin in the form of a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and partially modified tetrafluoroethylene, 5-40 parts by volume of carbon fiber, and 2-30 parts by volume of calcium sulfate whiskers having a Mohs hardness of 4 or less, and having, at 100° C., a maximum deformation rate in 24 hours, of 15% or less. A seal device to be brought into slide contact with an aluminum metal is molded from such a pressure-resistant, sliding tetrafluoroethylene resin composition.
Abstract:
A low friction valve train actuating at least one valve in an internal combustion engine includes a cam shaft having at least one cam, a tappet contacting the cam and valve, the cam and valve having outer surfaces with an open porosity, a solid film lubricant impregnated and anchored in the open porosity, the solid film lubricant is stable to temperatures at about 700.degree. F. to retain a low coefficient of friction in an oil starved environment.
Abstract:
A lubrication block, with or without a cavity, or a lubrication bag, for lubricating an ID surface of a tire and an OD surface of a plurality of pads of rotary trunnion supported equipment, such as a kiln, cooler, dryer, reactor, granulator and ball mill operating at temperatures from 100.degree. F. to 500.degree. F. or higher. The tire has inner and outer faces, and the inner face of the tire is slipped over the plurality of pads or filler bars welded to an outer shell of the rotary equipment. The lubrication block or bag is sized so as to be inserted in between the pads. The lubrication block comprises a lubricant and a solid carrier for said lubricant. The carrier is selected from the group consisting of waxes such as paraffin, polymers, copolymers such as ethylene or polyethylene glycol or mixtures thereof, and the lubricant comprises powdered carbon and a soft metal powder (e.g. copper, zinc, aluminum) or a noble metal powder (e.g. silver, copper).
Abstract:
The present invention provides lubricant compositions for the powder metallurgical field. The lubricant compositions contain a solid phase lubricant such as graphite, molybdenum disulfide, and polytetrafluoroethylene in combination with a liquid phase lubricant that is a binder for the solid phase lubricant. The binder can be chosen from various classes of compounds including polyethylene glycols, polyethylene glycol esters, partial esters of C.sub.3-6 polyhydric alcohols, polyvinyl esters, and polyvinyl pyrrolidones. The binder is solubilized in an organic solvent.
Abstract:
A mandrel lubricant for use in the production of seamless tubes. The mandrel lubricant composed of graphite, clay minerals from the smectite class, a polysaccharide and optionally a surfactant. The coating of the mandrels that have passed through a cooling bath takes place in the form of an aqueous dispersion.
Abstract:
A solid lubricant composition comprises (I) 30 to 70 parts by weight of graphite, (II) 70 to 30 parts by weight of a mixture of at least two components selected from alkali molybdate, alkali or alkaline earth sulphate and alkali phosphate, the ratio of the two individual ingredients being in the range of from 0.05/1 to 20/1. Compositions give improved load-bearing capacity and allows settling of friction coefficient.
