    Abstract: Fabricating a plasma display panel comprising two opposing insulating substrates with a discharge space between them, the display being produced by generating a plasma discharge between electrodes formed on the insulating substrates, comprises: (1) forming a plurality of electrodes on the insulating substrates; (2) forming a layer of a conductive glass or ceramic paste on the insulating substrate; (3) forming a masking film on the layer of paste in the positions between the electrodes; (4) blasting particles e.g. of sand against the paste layer and the masking layer to erode away the areas of paste not covered by the masking layer; and (5) exposing the paste layer to a baking atmosphere so as to form separating walls between the plurality of electrodes. Also claimed is a procedure for forming a plasma display panel comprising: (1) forming a plurality of electrodes on the insulating substrates; (2) forming a thin conductive film on the insulating substrates; (3) forming a layer of a paste on the insulating substrates; (4) forming a masking film on the layer of paste in the positions between the plurality of electrodes; (5) blasting particles e.g. of sand against the paste layer to erode away the areas of paste not covered by the masking layer; and (6) exposing the paste layer to a baking atmosphere so as to form separating walls between the electrodes. Also claimed is a method of assembling a substrate for a plasma display panel, the substrate comprising an insulating substrate, electrodes extending parallel to each other on the substrate and a plurality of barrier strips on the substrate parallel to the electrodes and forming a series of elongated cavities with the electrodes running along them, comprising: (1) forming the electrodes on the insulating substrate; (2) forming a layer of conductive paste on the insulating substrate; (3) forming a masking film on the layer of paste in the positions between the electrodes; (4) blasting particles e.g. of sand against the paste layer to erode away the areas of paste not covered by the masking layer; and (5) exposing the paste layer to a baking atmosphere so as to form the said barrier strips between the electrodes.

    Abstract: A planar discharge plasma display device having spaced front and rear plates 10, 20 with first, second and third series of strip-like conductors 31, 31a and 41 all formed on the rear plate 20, the first and second conductors 31, 31a extend in the same direction, as shown overlapping, and being insulated from each other and the gas discharge space, the third conductors 41, also insulated from the discharge space, cross the other conductors to form square discharge regions, wherein first, second and third electrodes 30, 30a and 40 connected respectively to first, second and third conductors are exposed in the discharge regions and barrier ribs 60 are provided to prevent cross-talk between unit pixels composed of first, second and third electrodes 30, 30a and 40. The common third signal lines 41 and the first signal lines 31 form the display discharge, and the second signal lines 31a, together with the third signal lines form an auxiliary discharge. The signal lines 31, 31a and barrier ribs 60 are formed in the same direction to constitute an accumulated structure so that the display discharge can be produced fast and stably, and also the occupation area of pixel per unit area is maximized, thereby realizing an image display of higher density.

    Abstract: An AC-driven dot-matrix gas discharge display panel having display electrodes multiples wired through capacitive coupling. Coupling capacitors provided for respective ends of each display electrode (25) are formed in respective side areas opposite to each other with respect to the display area on a substrate. The coupling capacitors are constructed from first and second driving electrodes (23, 24), first and second coupling electrodes (25a, 25b) connected to respective ends of the display electrodes (25) and dielectric layers (26, 27) between the driving electrodes (23, 24) and the coupling electrodes (25a, 25b). Each of the first coupling elecrodes (25a) connected to a respective end of the display electrodes in a group is arranged to face a different one of the first driving electrodes, and the second coupling electrodes connected to respective other ends of the display electrodes in a group are arranged to face a single one of the second driving electrodes. Thus a multiplex wiring of the display electrodes is achieved. Electrodes pattern configurations are disclosed which allow an increase of coupling capacitances which is as large as possible, and reduce cross-talk, due to the capacities at cross-over points of the driving electrodes and the interconnections between the display electrodes and corresponding coupling electrodes.

    Abstract: A gas discharge panel includes several pairs of column (X) electrodes arranged on a first substrate and several pairs of row (Y) electrodes arranged on a second substrate, the column and row electrodes being orthogonally oriented and in spaced, opposed relation to define therebetween a gap filled with an ionizable gas. In a first driving configuration, a corresponding electrode of each pair of (X) electrodes is selectively driven by an (X) address driver and similarly a corresponding one of each of the (Y) electrode pairs is selectively driven by a (Y) address driver. The other electrode of each of the (X) and (Y) electrode pairs then is connected in common to respective (X) and (Y) sustain voltage driver terminals. In a further embodiment, each of the (X) and (Y) electrode pairs is arranged in corresponding groups of electrode pairs, each group including a common number of such pairs. First electrodes of each pair of each group are connected to a common output terminal of an address and sustain voltage driver; thus, plural address and sustain voltage driver outputs corresponding to the plural groups are employed for each of the (X) and (Y) electrode pairs. The second electrodes of corresponding pairs of the plural groups are connected to respectively corresponding, further common output terminals of address and sustain voltage drivers; thus, a plurality of further common terminals corresponding to the number of electrode pairs in each group are provided, as to each of the (X) and (Y) electrodes. The panel as thus configured affords decoding of addressing signals applied to the common terminals by means of plasma coupling within the panel whereby the discharge point or cell defined by a desired electrode of each of the column and the row electrode pairs can be addressed selectively. A further embodiment provides shifting of the display to successive positions in either the (X) or (Y) directions.

    Abstract: Disclosed is an AC memory drive type self-shift type gas discharge panel which can prevent an accidental discharge caused by distributed abnormal charges which are stored at both ends of the shift channel.     Abstract: In order to prevent abnormal wall charge accumulation, and thereby to prevent accidental erroneous discharges resulting from such abnormal accumulation, paths for leakage of wall charges accumulated on dielectric layers 3 are provided in dielectric layers 3 corresponding to a write electrode W1 at one end of a shift channel and a final shift electrode y2n at the other end of the shift channel. A path for leakage of wall charges may be provided by a crevice 11 in the dielectric layer 3 which extends from the surface of the dielectric layer 3 to the surface of the write electrode W1 or the surface of the final shift electrode y2n. Other means of providing such a leakage path are also disclosed.
