    Abstract: Reinforced thermoplastic moulding compsn. consists of (A) 40-94 (wt.) copolymer of (a1) 90-50% styrene (IA), alpha-methylstyrene (IB) and/or a ring alkyl-substd. styrene deriv. (IC) and (a2) 10-50% (meth)acrylonitrile (IIA) and/or methyl (meth)acrylate (IIB), (B) 20-0.5% terpolymer of (B1) 90-50% (I), (b2) 5-40% (II) and (b3) 2-30% of another monomer (III) and (C) 5-50% reinforcement (IV). The novelty is that (III) is t-butyl (meth)acrylate. The compsn. may also contain, w.r.t. A + B + C, (D) 1-50% graft copolymer(s) of (d1) 50-90% tubber(s) with Tg below 0 deg.C, (d2) 10-49% vinyl-aromatic monomer(s) with max. 12C atoms and (d3) 49-1% (IIA) and/or 1-8C-alkyl (meth)acrylate(s); and/or (E) up to 20% usual additives. The pref. compsn. is (A) 50-87% copolymer of 80-60% (I) and 20-40% (II), (B) 10-0.5% terpolymer of 90-50% (I), 5-40% (II) and 5-15% (III) and (C) 15-40% (IV); partic. (A) 55-65% copolymer of 80-20% (IA) and 20-40% acrylontrile (IIA-1), (B) 10-0.5% terpolymer of 85-60% (IA), (IIA-1) and 5-15% (III) and (C) 20-40% glass fibres.

A comprises a1) 50-80%, on A, elastomer based on polybutadiene or butadiene copolymer as core polymer and a2) 20-50%, on A, shell polymer, average particle size 0.2-1 micron (d50 value of integral mass distribution), made in 2 stages from at least one (II) and at least one (III) by grafting in first stage only (II) in amt. of 5-50% a2) then, in presence of this prod., grafting in second stage 50-95% mixt. of (II) and (III) in ratio 90:10-60:40. B comprises b1) 40-70%, on B, elastomer based on homopolybutadiene.

    Abstract: Practically uncrosslinked graft polymers (I) consist of (A) a base polymer of 40-100(wt.)% polyphenylene ether and 0-60% vinyl-aromatic polymer, (B) a monomer with a C=C double bond, in which the double bond C atoms are substd. by only one CO gp. and (C) opt. other olefinically unsatd. monomers. The novelty is that (B) also contains 2 CO gps. linked through a C=C double bond, with the structure (i). Pref. (B) is mono-2-acryloxyethyl maleate (B1) or mono-2-methacryloxyethyl maleate (B2). The graft polymer contains 80-99.9, pref. 90-99.9% (A), 0.1-20, pref. 0.1-10% (B) and 0-20, pref. 0% (C). Graft polymerisation is carried out at 170-350 deg.C (practically) in the absence of a free radical initiator.
