    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject improving agent capable of exhibiting excellent compacting property without depending on kinds of earth and sand by including adduct of a higher fatty acid or a higher alcohol. SOLUTION: This improving agent comprises ethylene oxide (1-50 mol) and propylene oxide (1-30 mol) adduct of a 7-24C higher fatty acid or higher alcohol (preferably the higher alcohol). The adduct is preferably a compound of the formula [R is a 10-16C alkyl; EO is oxyethylene; PO is oxypropylene; (l), (m) and (n) are each 1-10]. It is preferable that preferably >=50 wt.%, further preferably >=80 wt.%, especially preferably substantially all of the improving agent comprises the above adduct of the formula. An amount of the improving agent added to earth and sand is preferably 0.001-2 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of earth and sand. Thereby, excellent compacting property can be expected without being limited by kinds of earth and sand and qualities, amounts, etc. of organic substances contained in earth and sand.
