Abstract: An apparatus and a method for demodulation in a transmission system are provided to improve reception of an addition layer by using a pilot existing in an addition layer signal. A receiver(210) receives the signal in the form of a transfer frame and the signal comprises a phase reference symbol, a fast information channel and a main service channel. A pilot information storage unit(230) stores location information of a pilot included in the main service channel. A primary channel estimating unit(244) channel-estimates the phase reference symbol and outputs a primary channel estimated value. According to the channel estimated value of the phase reference symbol, the second channel estimating unit(245) channel-estimates the fast information channel and outputs the second channel estimated value. Abstract: An apparatus and a method for receiving advanced DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) conditional access by using hierarchical modulation are provided efficiently to charge a user for various services which are transmitted to an enhanced hierarchy when providing a high efficient paid DMB service to the user. A control monitoring unit selects a desired channel in an RF signal inputted through a reception RF(Radio Frequency) unit(S310). The control monitoring unit outputs the selected channel signal to an OFDM demodulator, and demodulates and outputs the channel signal by discriminating an enhanced hierarchy service from a basic hierarchy service based on symbol values which are confirmed at OFDM symbols(S320). A demultiplexer of the basic hierarchy and the enhanced hierarchy demultiplexes and outputs the inputted signal by each hierarchy and parses FIC data and MSC data(S330). An enhanced hierarchy data analyzer, a basic hierarchy data analyzer and a video service stream analyzer determines whether or not the descrambling process is necessary(S340,S350), and a control and monitoring unit determines whether or not the highly qualified service should be provided(S370). If a highly qualified service mode is selected, a synthesizer combines those two hierarchies for providing the selected service well to output a stream by which a highly qualified service is possible(S380).

Abstract: A digital cable broadcasting receiver including a security module and a method for authenticating the same are provided to only a subscriber who joins a normal broadcasting service to watch a broadcast program, consequently preventing the illegal watching of a broadcast program. Abstract: An apparatus and a method for estimating a frequency offset improve reception performance of a mobile communication system and reduce complexity of the system by estimating interval of a subcarrier up to integral number or prime number times.
