Abstract:
A vehicle inertia or deceleration sensing device of a seat belt retractor comprising: an outer housing member (310) including a first housing part for supporting an inner housing member (320) at a predetermined relative angle, and a support member (152) for holding the first housing part at another angle, such angles corresponding to mounting angles of a frame of the retractor.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an external lubricant composition for calendered vinyl polymer. The external lubricant provides rigid vinyl polymer compositions having improved plate out resistance, clarity, release, and stability. The external lubricant comprises an effective amount for lubricating vinyl polymer of polyethylene having a Brookfield viscosity at a temperature of 150 DEG C of greater than about 85,000 centipoises and an acid number as determined by standardized titration of KOH of between about 5 and about 9. Sheets of the calendered vinyl polymer are used for blister packs and credit cards.
Abstract:
Polymer precursor formulations suitable for stereolithography may be prepared from compositions containing vinyl ether functionalized compounds and epoxy functionalized compounds plus an effective amount of a cationic photoinitiator and an ultraviolet light-absorbing compound to provide a predetermined depth of cure. Preferably, the ultraviolet light-absorbing compound is anthracene or its derivatives. Anthracenes having pendant alkoxy groups are preferred for use with light wavelengths greater than 360 nm, particularly 9,10-dimethoxy-2-ethyl anthracene.
Abstract:
A double-ended tuning fork (DETF) is formed from two vibrating beams joined together at each end, having a thickness t, a width w, a length L and a vibrating beam length m. The dimensional ratios t/w and L/m for the DETF are selected according to a relatively more accurate spurious mode map based upon detailled finite element calculations at specific dimensional ratios for t/w and L/m. The results of the finite element analysis are fit by way of a least-squared polynominal over the entire dimensional range of interest. The results of the finite element analysis for the spurious modes provide differences of up to fourteen percent (14 %) relative to the spurious mode map based on simple beam theory. In addition, the spurious mode map in accordance with the present invention accounts for the use of symmetric in the base region outriggers in the base region of the DETF which increases the mechanical Q of the DETF.
Abstract:
An inflator (20) comprising: a pressure vessel (22) made of a thin walled steel tubing (24), sealed at one end by an end plate or cap (30). The other end of the pressure vessel sealed by a propellant housing (50). A plurality of axial bores (56a-d) exiting through an adjacent part (58) of the housing (50) and a face of the adjacent part of the housing includes a second counter bore (70) and a plurality of radial bores (72a-d) radially extend therefrom. A rupture disk assembly (100) having a central portion (102) forms a rupture disk extending into the second counter bore (70) and a radially extending outer portion (104) fitted generally flat against the face (60).
Abstract:
An environmental control system has an air cycle machine that includes a compressor (38), a cooling turbine (34), a motor/generator (36), and a power turbine (40) all mounted on a single shaft (32). The power turbine receives bleed air from the aircraft's engine (12) and has a variable geometry inlet nozzle (42) that adjusts the air flow rate therethrough without significant throttling. Downstream of the nozzle the power turbine extracts the expansion energy from the bleed air while cooling it. This is used to drive the other components of the air cycle machine, and in particular the motor/generator which generates electricity.
Abstract:
A post depressurization device (30) for providing an indication of the pressure that existed within a fluid-filled pressure vessel (22) just prior to depressurization of the pressure vessel, having a housing (102) and a piston (130) for temporality sealing an open end of the housing and outwardly movable in response to a pressure differential not less than a predetermined level generated subsequent to the depressurization of the pressure vessel. The piston and the housing cooperating to define a pressure storage cavity (156). The housing including a valve (122) for permitting the fluid within the pressure vessel to enter the pressure cavity and stabilize at a level substantially equal to the pressure level within the pressure vessel and for inhibiting a rapid decrease in the pressure within the pressure cavity immediately subsequent to depressurization of the pressure vessel.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a film produced by forming a bubble from a composition comprising: (a) up to about 99.9 weight percent based on the total weight of the composition of a polyamide; and (b) at least about 0.1 weight percent based on the total weight of the composition of a polyolefin having functional groups which are reactive with the functional groups of the polyamide wherein the functional groups of the polyolefin are present in an amount sufficient to maintain the strength of the bubble. The film is particularly useful as a carrier film in the production of sandwich composites of sheet molding compound and thick molding compound.
Abstract:
A polyamide composition comprising an aliphatic polyamide such as nylon 6 and an oligomeric aromatic polyamide, such as oligomers of poly(tolylene diisophthalamide), which exhibit improved retention flexural modulus and flexural strength at ambient humidity, i.e. about 50 % to about 65 %.
Abstract:
A vacuum booster (12) having a control valve (66) independently actuatable by a manual input applied to an operator pedal assembly (16) to effect a brake application or by a traction control force derived from a signal developed by a controller (35) to selectively apply brake force to synchronize rotational spin of the wheels of a vehicle. An input rod (76) connected to the control valve (66) has a housing (75) attached thereto with a traction control chamber (117) therein. A sleeve (78) which surrounds the input rod (76) has a first flange (110) that engages a shoulder (102) on the input rod (76) and a second flange (98) that is connected to a diaphragm (92) retained in the traction control chamber (117). A return spring (116) acts on the first flange (110) to urge the second flange (98) and diaphragm (92) against a stop (84) in the housing (75). In response to an input signal the controller (35) allows vacuum to be communicated to the traction control chamber (117) to create a traction control pressure differential. The traction control pressure differential acts on the diaphragm (92) to develop a force which is applied to the second flange (98) to compress the return spring (116) and permit a pressure differential to move the control valve (66) and permit environmental air to create an operational pressure differential to develop a traction control output force. The traction control output force pressurizes fluid in the master cylinder (14) which is selectively applied to the wheel brakes to synchronize the rotational spin of the wheels.
