Abstract: La presente se refiere a un método y sistema para proveer un estado de unidad inalámbrica de transmision/recepcion (WTRU), en la provision de servicios en tiempo real a través de una red inalámbrica de área local que interopera con sistemas del 3GPP. Una entidad como una pasarela de datos por paquete (PDG) en la red del 3GPP almacena y mantiene el estado corriente de la WTRU y actualiza el estado de la WTRU cuando cambia. La WTRU senaliza un cambio en su estado a la PDG. Cuando la PDG recibe un mensaje del sistema del 3GPP dirigido a la WTRU, la PDG examina el estado de la WTRU con anterioridad al reenvío del mensaje a la WTRU.

Abstract: Method and apparatus delivering voice/data services within a piconet operating over a limited range or over a WLAN communicating with 3GPP devices by reformatting data into IP format before delivering to the WLAN. The service is short message service (SMS). Upon receipt of an SMS message, relevant routing information is retrieved. A PDGW address for the SMS message is identified and is sent to the PDGW address which identifies the WLAN user equipment (UE) for receiving the SMS and reformats the SMS message into IP format (text or encapsulation) for delivery to the UE. A protocol architecture is provided for SMS delivery over WLANs, in particular, for UMTS/CDMA based SMS over WLAN through two alternative mechanisms, i.e., SMS tunneling and SMS proxy, for protocols for the delivery of SMS across the WLAN. The invention enhances standard 802.11 in the context of UMTS and CDMA 2000; as well as other scenarios.

Abstract: A method for delivering a short message service (SMS) message to an interworking wireless local area network user equipment (UE) begins by registering the UE with an Internet Protocol short message gateway (IP-SM-GW). A capability report is sent from the UE to the IP-SM-GW, the capability report including the capabilities of the UE. A SMS message is transmitted from a short message service center (SMSC) to the IP-SM-GW. The capabilities of the UE are evaluated at the IP-SM-GW to determine whether the UE can receive the SMS message, and the SMS message is delivered to the UE via the IP-SM-GW if the UE has the capabilities to receive the SMS message.

Se provee una arquitectura de protocolo para entrega de SMS a través de WLANs, en particular, para SMS basado en UMTS/CDMA a través de WLAN mediante dos mecanismos alternativos, es decir, tunelización de SMS y proxy SMS, para protocolos para la entrega de SMS a través de la WLAN. La presente mejora el estándar 802.11 en el contexto de UMTS y CDMA 2000, así como también otros escenarios.
