Abstract:
A radar detection process includes computing a derivative of an FFT output signal to detect an object within a specified detection zone. In one embodiment, a zero crossing in the second derivative of the FFT output signal indicates the presence of an object. The range of the object is determined as a function of the frequency at which the zero crossing occurs. Also described is a detection table containing indicators of the presence or absence of an object within a respective radar beam and processing cycle. At least two such indicators are combined in order to detect the presence of an object within the detection zone and with changing range gates in each of the antenna beams the coverage of the detection zone can be varied.
Abstract:
A tracking and driving speed regulating device for motor vehicles, having a sensor device for detecting lane tracking, a steering regulator for evaluating signals from sensor device and for issuing steering commands to a steering actuator, and a speed regulator, acting upon the driving system of the vehicle, which may be switched to an operating state by a main switch and may be activated in the operating state by an actuation signal generated by an operating element, wherein the steering regulator may be switched to the operating state by a separate main switch independent of the speed regulator, and may be activated in the operating state by the same actuation signal as the speed regulator.

Abstract:
A multiple beam array antenna system comprises a plurality of radiating elements provided from stripline-fed open-ended waveguide coupled to a Butler matrix beam forming network. The Butler matrix beam forming network is coupled to a switched beam combining circuit. The antenna can be fabricated as a single Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (LTCC) circuit.
Abstract:
A lane deviation avoidance system for an adaptive cruise control system equipped vehicle includes an electronic control unit that executes a host vehicle's lane deviation avoidance control in which a change in vehicle dynamic behavior occurs in a direction that avoids the host vehicle from deviating from a driving lane when there is a possibility of the host vehicle's lane deviation from the driving lane. The control unit puts a priority on the lane deviation avoidance control by limiting a driving force acting on the host vehicle, when there is the possibility of the host vehicle's lane deviation from the driving lane.
Abstract:
A method of detecting a lane change of a subject vehicle (20), having a locating device (10) which uses angular resolution for locating vehicles (VEH1, VEH2, VEH3) traveling in front, and a device (44) for determining the yaw rate (null0) of the subject vehicle. The angular velocity (nulli) of at least one vehicle traveling in front relative to the subject vehicle (20) is measured using the locating device (10), and a lane change signal (LC) indicating the lane change is formed by comparing the measured angular velocity (nulli) to the yaw rate (null0) of the subject vehicle.

An object recognition method for an intelligent cruise control system of a vehicle with an electronic control unit for performing cruise control and two sensors in communication with the electronic control unit for sensing distance between the vehicle and at least one forward object is provided, which includes: determining a shape of a lane marker; detecting distances from the two sensors to a forward object, and determining a shape of the forward object using the distances; determining whether the shape of the lane marker coincides with the shape of the forward object; and determining that the forward object is a stationary object if it is determined that the shape of the lane marker coincides with the shape of the forward object.
Abstract:
A detecting device for detecting moving target vehicles from a moving host vehicle, comprising a first detector means mounted to the host vehicle and aligned to a stationary target area for generating at least a first output representative of the stationary target area at least at a time T1, a second detector means mounted to the host vehicle and aligned to the stationary target area for generating at least a second output representative of the stationary target area at least at a time T2, and a control system to receive the first and second outputs and to compare the first output at T1 to the second output at T2 to identify any differences between the outputs, whereby a target vehicle moving in the stationary target area may be detected.
Abstract:
In accordance with the present invention, an adaptive cruise control system includes a radio frequency (RF) transmit receive (TR) sensor module (or more simply nullsensornull) disposed such that a detection zone is deployed in front of a vehicle. The sensor includes a sensor antenna system which comprises a transmit antenna for emitting or transmitting an RF signal and a receive antenna for receiving portions of the transmitted RF signal which are intercepted by one or more objects within a field of view of the transmit antenna and reflected back toward the receive antenna. With this particular arrangement, a detection system that detects objects in a region about a front of a vehicle is provided. If the system determines that the vehicle is approaching an object or that an object is approaching the vehicle, then the sensor initiates steps that are carried out in accordance with a set of rules that control an accelerator of the vehicle. The accelerator is adjusted to maintain a safe trailing distance behind the detected object.
