    Abstract: In an embodiment, a natural rubber-based ABS - target polymer blend includes natural rubber-based ABS powder combined with a set of target polymers (e.g., polycarbonate (PC)). A natural rubber-based ABS powder production process includes producing grafted natural rubber; and mixing the grafted natural rubber with a set of grafted polybutadiene rubbers. The set of grafted polybutadiene rubbers includes at least one grafted polybutadiene rubber having a particle size that is significantly different than the grafted natural rubber particle size. In an embodiment, the grafted natural rubber exhibits a large particle size; a first grafted polybutadiene rubber exhibits a small particle size; and a second grafted polybutadiene rubber exhibits a medium particle size between the large and small particle sizes. Natural rubber-based ABS - target polymer blends in accordance with the present disclosure can exhibit generally equivalent or increased impact and/or tensile strength compared to other non-natural or synthetic rubber-based ABS blends.

    Abstract: A process of preparing a water-based emulsion includes adding a first monomer feed to a reaction vessel in the presence of a first initiator and water to form an acid-functional polymer; neutralizing the acid-functional polymer to form a particulate polymer; and adding a second monomer feed to the reaction vessel in the presence of a second initiator to form an agglomerated polymer; where the process is a one-pot process. The first monomer feed includes a (meth)acrylate monomer, a (meth)acrylic acid monomer, and a styrenic monomer; the second monomer feed includes a hydrophobic monomer; the water-based emulsion includes the agglomerated polymer; the agglomerated polymer includes the particulate polymer; and the agglomerated polymer having an aggregated drupelet morphology. The agglomerated polymers may be used in high opacity emulsions.

    Abstract: The formation of a cream and gel is described using a biopolymer, such as a polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), a polylactide (PLA), a polylactideglycolide (PLGA) and a polyglycoside (PGA), or a derivative thereof, in a latex form with the addition of a binder, which is generally an amphiphilic chemical entity. An hydrophobic domain of the amphiphilic chemical entity interacts with at least one biopolymer forming a water soluble complex, while the hydrophilic domain of the amphiphilic chemical entity maintains the soluble complex in suspension in an aqueous solution, which after proper heating becomes a gel or a cream. As a result, a versatile gel or cream is created with different compositions and textures that are obtained based on the nature of the binder used and the ratio of biopolymers and binder(s).

    Abstract: The disclosure relates to rubber latex formed from any of: branched block copolymers derived from alkenyl aromatic hydrocarbon—1,3-diene monomer system, and branched polyisoprene homopolymers derived from isoprene. The polymers in embodiments are obtained by polymerization in the presence of an anionic initiator; at a temperature from 0° C. to 100° C.; followed by coupling with a multifunctional coupling agent of formula (R1O)3Si—Y—Si(OR2)3, wherein R1 and R2 are independently C1-C6 alkyl groups; and Y is a C2-C8 alkylene group. The polymers are obtained as rubber cements having high solids content and low zero shear viscosities. The rubber cements are valuable for making latices for further applications.

The present invention provides an emulsion composition comprising (I) an emulsion of a resin having a film forming property in a solid content of 60 to 99.9 parts by mass and (II) an emulsion of a silicone-acrylic core-shell resin in solid content of 0.1 to 40 parts by mass, a total mass of the solid contents of components (I) and (II) being 100 parts by mass, wherein a core of the silicone-acrylic core-shell resin (II) is composed of an organopolysiloxane (A), a shell layer of the silicone-acrylic core-shell resin (II) is composed of a poly(meth)acrylate ester (B), a mass ratio of the organopolysiloxane (A) to the poly(meth)acrylate ester (B) is in a range of 40:60 to 95:5, and a covering ratio by the poly(meth)acrylate ester on a surface of the silicone-acrylic core-shell resin is at least 50%.
